Maui's P.O.V.

Moana lies down and slowly falls asleep. I smile as Moana sleeps soundly. I look up and navigate the stars as we sail. I nod as I turn the oar to the left slightly. I then look out at the sea. The soft moonlight lights the dark and deep ocean. I sigh softly and watch the waves. The canoe rocks softly against the waves and I rest my head against the mast.

"I could rest my eyes for a bit." I mumble to myself. Slow but surely I fall into a light slumber.

*Inside Maui's Dream*

I look around to see my surroundings are very small and cramped. The air is cool and thick. I look to see that I'm inside a very small hut.

"Hello?" I say. I walk around the room. I see a large tapa mat and blanket on the ground. I also see an outline of what seem to be a basket. I walk inside to a living room and see a couple arguing and a basket. The basket is the same shape of outline on the floor. I walk up close and the couple doesn't see me. I walk over to the basket and see a bundle of blankets and a small odd shape. I reach and lift part of the blanket to reveal a baby. My eyes grow wide as I see the baby's face. Its very red and slightly swollen.

"My gods! He's sick with the plague!" I whisper to myself.

"We have to get rid of him!" I hear a male voice say. I look over at the couple and walk up to them. Their mouths are moving but no more sound comes out. The man is pointing at the child and the woman has a worried and pleading look on her face. The woman speaks and looks like she is begging. The man shakes his head and grabs the woman's hands. They speak softly and the man wipes the woman's face dry. They then walk over to me still not noticing me and grab the basket.

"Wait what are you doing?! That baby needs medicine!" I shout. I rush to the door and stand in the way. The couple walk through me as if nothing has happened. I turn around and follow them. They walk to the beach and the woman takes the baby out of the basket. Then the woman walks into knee deep water holding the baby.

"What are you doing with him?!" I shout.

"I'm so...so sorry." She says. I run as fast as I can to grab the baby but, the woman tosses the baby far into the water.

"NO!" I scream.

Moana's P.O.V.

"No, no, no.".

I awake to the sound. I look to see Maui is fast asleep but he is sweating and mumbling. He is also tossing and turning very fiercely. I sit up and look at him.

"Maui?" I say. He doesn't awake and he starts to sweat more profusely. I get up and walk over to him.

"Maui! Maui wake up!" I say as I shake his arm. Maui doesn't awake. I grow concerned.

"Maui! WAKE UP!" I shout as I shake him as hard as I can. He awakes very startled, confused, and...scared. He looks at me as he breathes fast and heavily. His face is warm and the sweat runs down his face. He swallows a lump and I look at him sadly.

"Moana?" He says. I smile and nod. He looks around for a moment and then at me.

"What's going on?" He asks.

"I think you were having a nightmare." I say softly.

"Nightmare?" He repeats. I nod and walk over to the storage compartment. I grab a cloth and close the door shut. I then dip the cloth into the cool ocean. I walk back over to Maui and sit down. I reach for his face and he looks at me.

"W-what are?" He starts. I smile as I press the cool cloth against his red and sweaty skin. He sighs in relief as I slowly cool his skin. I continue to wipe his face and he looks at me.

"I-I didn't mean to fall asleep." He says quietly. I chuckle softly as I move down to his neck.

"As I recall, wayfinders don't sleep!" I say in a mocking tone. He chuckles at the reference. I dip the rag in the ocean once more and press it against his shoulders.

"Well there comes a time in a wayfinder's life that they do have to sleep. That time would just happen to be now." He says. I giggle and sigh. I then reach for his bandage. Maui looks at me as I untie and unwrap his chest. I look over and see all no scars.

"You're all healed. But the only way to get rid the cream residue is by taking a swim." I say as I look up at him. Maui smirks and meets my eyes. I feel my ears burn as the gap between his teeth show as he chuckles once again.

"Well then, care to join me for a very early morning swim?" He asks. I look at him startled.

"Is he... flirting with me?" I wonder inside my head. He then laughs and I look at him.

"Look, I was kidding." He says. He stands up and moves to the edge of the canoe. He then scoots away from the boat and into the ocean. I watch him as he swims around like a child.

"Having fun?" I ask with a teasing smile. He looks over at me behind his shoulder. He smiles.

"I am. I'm having the time of life as of matter of fact." He says teasing me back. I laugh and swims up to me. I watch and he rests his arms on the side and lowers his head. He treads lightly and I look at him. He smiles and I tilt my head to the side.

"What?" I say with a small giggle. He beckons me to come closer by waving his finger. I do and his smile grows wider.

"Maui? What are you thinking?" I ask. He grins evilly and grabs my hand. I look at him and realize what he plans to do.

"Don't y-" I start but before I get to finish he tugs on my hand and I am pulled off the boat and into the cool ocean. I swim up fast and gasp as the cool air hits my face and enters my lungs. I look at Maui shocked and he laughs hysterically. I glare at him.

"MAUI!" I screech. He laughs harder. I swim up to him and splash him in the face. His laughter comes to a halt as he sputters at the sudden wave of water. He looks at me flabbergasted. I burst out into my own fit of laughter. I watch as his frown grow into a smile.

"Ok, ok, I guess I deserved that." Maui says with a chuckle. I giggle and nod. I swim up to him and he looks at me. I smile and he grabs my hand. I look at him confused. He pulls me in close and I bump into his chest. He then grabs my waist and I rest my hands on his chest. I look up at Maui very confused.

"What are you doing?" I ask. He chuckles.

"Your shivering." He says. I blink and realizing that I am indeed cold and shivering.

"Oh." I say looking at the water.

"Come on, let's go get dried off." Maui says. We swim up to the canoe and climb up. Maui walks over to the storage compartment and grabs a blanket. He walks over and places the blanket over my shoulders.

"Thank you." I say. He sits down and I sigh. We sit in silence for a few minutes.

"I can take watch. You can go back to sleep." I say as I break the quietness. I look at him and Maui's face drops.

"I'd...I'd rather not go back to sleep." Maui says quietly as he looks away. I frown and place a hand on his shoulder.

"Did...you wanna talk about your nightmare?" I ask. Maui looks at me and sighs.

"Well...I was in a hut. A small one. I saw a bedroom with a missing basket. I walk out and I see a couple and the basket. I walk up to the basket and see a bundle of blankets. I lift the bundle to see a baby. A baby sick with a plague that was around when I was born. I then heard the father say something." Maui starts but stops. I look at him.

"What...what did he say?" I ask.

"He said...we have to get rid of him!" Maui says with an airy voice. My eyes grows wide. Maui's face goes pale.

"The couple talk for a moment. They leave the hut with the baby and walk to the beach. The woman takes the baby out of the basket. She walks with the baby and walks into the ocean. I try to stop her but she tosses the child into the sea. The nightmare stops there and I wake up." He says quietly. I look down at the ocean and Maui wraps his arm around me. I rest my head in his chest. We say nothing and watch the sunrise in silence.
