The last time Menggay says "I love you" is when she is five years old.
She tiptoes beside the bed to listen to her Nanay whisper to her ear,
"Menggay, live your life to the fullest. The world is not perfect, so it's up to you how you will make it beautiful. Take care of your Tatay and your sisters. I love you."
"I love you, Nanay," the young girl answers, her eyes wide and her voice soft.
Menggay never utters those three words again, not to her dad or her sisters nor to her boyfriends.
And she never, ever, says it to RJ, even if he is her best, best, bestfriend.
