It's Valentine's Day. Menggay sees RJ approach her on the school corridor. Her heart beats faster when she spots the red rose.
With a sweet smile, RJ hands it to her. He then asks her to give it to his classmate Trish.
Menggay's hopes drop, but she goes to Trish during recess. "RJ says Will you be my Valentine?"
Trish blushes and her barkada teases her. "Salamat, are you his sister?"
"No, I'm his girlfriend."
Trish and her friends laugh.
"Cute sa imo," she says and pinches Menggay's cheek. "Please tell your boyfriend thank you."
RJ awaits Meng's news. She tells him Trish got the flower and says thank you.
She does not talk to him for days after that. Menggay's sisters tell RJ that she's upset.
RJ plucks santan flowers that grow in abundance on their street. He gives her a bouquet.
In her room, she removes the petals one by one, "He hearts me. He hearts me not. He hearts me, he hearts me not."
She finally ends with "He hearts me." She jumps up and down her bed with joy.
Life in Menggay Mendoza's house is good again.
