He is nine when he plants his vegetable garden. It starts as an assignment for Science class. He gets fascinated when the monggo seeds sprout. Come summer, RJ not only has monggo, but also tomatoes, chilis, oregano and celery.
Meng helps him make his garden grow by removing weeds and taking out snails.
One time, Meng's Tatay gives her a pet and she brings it over to RJ's house. The animal jumps off her arms and runs away. Later in the day, the rabbit is found munching the leaves off RJ's prized produce.
RJ is heartbroken over his plants. He gets angry at Menggay for being irresponsible with her pet. But his heart softens when she comes over, quiet and crying. She embraces him very hard. "Sorry, RJ."
He taps her back and consoles her. He promises that they will grow a better garden.
She names her bunny Celerich, after the pet's favorite veg and RJ's first name.
