Two Cloves of Garlic

The neighborhood kids are playing hide and seek. It's been an hour since they started and they still couldn't find Menggay.

They call out her name but she doesn't answer. The children tell their parents and a search party is formed.

RJ is very worried. He asks Meng's sisters to look inside their home. She is not there.

Finally, RJ sees her foot underneath an overgrown hedge of bushes. He hollers for everyone and they gather to look at her fast asleep. Beside her head, mirroring her sleeping position, is a street cat.

RJ wakes Menggay and she slowly opens her eyes. Her face has dirt all over and lines that formed from sleeping on twigs. The animal also wakes up.

Menggay and the cat look at each other. She screams. The cat screeches and hangs on to her hair. She stands up and dances around with the cat holding on.

RJ tells her to calm down. Finally, the animal jumps off and lands on RJ's shoulders, scratching and attacking him.

Menggay is found. RJ gets anti-rabies shots. He also gets a permanent scar on his cheek.
