Puberty hits hard on RJ. His voice changes, he gets pimples on his face and he grows tall.
His interests change. He refuses to watch cartoons with Meng. His earbuds are glued on. He plays basketball and goes to the court with the neighborhood boys.
Menggay looks for ways to get his attention. She shows him her new drawing- it's him wearing his shorts and jersey. She brings him Celerich's 100th baby bunny. She wears the brand new Pokemon socks her Tatay brings home from Japan. But RJ just nods and puts his earphones back on.
She brings water to the court, but he refuses it since it's in her pink tumbler. He says that pink is not cool.
Menggay grudgingly walks away. She is watering his garden when he comes back from his game.
She positions the hose like a gun and threatens to spray him.
She finally gets his attention.
He shouts "What do you want?"
Hurt by the tone of his voice, Menggay sprays him full blast.
She gets her revenge. He gets the flu and could not play ball for two weeks.
She brings him bowls of Rameng, named after his favorite soup and her nickname.
