Chapter 4: The Feltatus Madhour

Alexander was FAST. Immediately after I took off, he had landed on the top of a skyscraper, and was actually jumping over the gaps between them. This was not going to be fun at all. And to top it off, he decided to insult me.

“Come on you lazy excuse for a pixie! Those butterfly wings slowing you down? Too bad! I’m outa here!” And if I didn’t do something, that WOULD be the case.

“This is Commander Danica, requesting air support. We got a hostile fleeing on top of the skyscrapers. I need as many copters and planes you can get me. We’ll need a lot to stop him from escaping. He’s fast. And a dragonling, so don’t get cocky!” I bark into a microphone set on my chin. “Oh crap, he’s throwing a barrel of oil at me.” The stupid dragonling was actually lighting them on fire, and hurling them at me. Of course, running like he was, they weren’t accurate throws, but you don’t need a good aim with flammable oil now do you? KABOOM! A wave of searing heat strikes my back as I continue chasing him. The planes I requested arrive with a loud roar, and several copters begin firing at him. He then bolts for the edge of a skyscraper.

“You’ve GOT to be kidding me.” I sigh, and follow him, as he jumps off the skyscraper, and begins to freefall. He lands on the top of a plane, and takes out a black object. “OH COME ON!” I yell as he fire bullets at me with a machine gun. So he WAS desperate huh? Not too many people are that determined to escape. He must have something up his sleeve for later if he wants to get out of here. Too bad he won’t win with cheap tricks. I had decided to wear bullet proof armor. After several rounds go by, he gives up and takes out a knife, and THEN I become concerned.

Alexander was known in his profile for the deadly accuracy of his knife throws. In a legendary battle, he threw a knife from one end of a battlefield, and hit the general in the eye, and he had actually been seen aiming in that direction, even as the guy was moving. I knew I didn’t stand a chance if he threw that thing. He tossed it into the air, even as I was falling down toward him, and then grabbed it, and plunged it into the engine of the plane. He jumped off, as it spiraled recklessly towards the ground. I cast a minor spell to try and soften it’s landing.

He landed gracefully, like the saying goes, ‘cats always land on their feet.’ He took off again, tossing hover cars at me, with their unfortunate drivers still inside. This was getting dangerous. He eyed several oil tanks, and ignited them with a breath of fire. He put on a burst of speed, and fled as they all exploded, forcing me to use my War Fairy Form. My war fairy form is Earth. It allows the control of the earth element, which I use to create a shield of earth to block the explosion.

To catch up with him, I manipulate the earth so that I can run faster on it, and soon I gain considerable ground, yet I am unable to keep up for long. He glowers at me, and yells,

“Give it up you stupid pixie!” He gives me a rather rude gesture, at which I create a boulder and throw it at him. He gives me an annoying smirk before he punches it, shattering it into rubble. That’s a surprise. Not. He suddenly eyes a wall erected by a large platoon of fairy soldiers, weapons at the ready. He glances back at me. “Do you really think such puny forces can beat me, Crown? Watch as I effortlessly escape!” That serious pissed me off. I try to put on an extra burst of speed, yet he only accelerates so suddenly, he disappears. I gasp, and look wildly for him, when I hear the blast. It took me a moment to realize, but he had gone into supersonic speeds. I screech to a stop, right in front of the platoon, and I look wildly around. They are as dumfounded as I am.

A soldier walks up to me. “Shall I fetch the other military personal?” I nod curtly, then proceed back to command, to prepare for a long day of reports to be filled in by civilians who I would have to come up with an excuse for the disruption of their daily lives.

“Gentlemen and Women, do you know why you’re here?” I ask several hours later. They quietly shake their heads. “We are here because of a breach in our defenses. An enemy dragonling was detected and pursued through the whole city, but easily escaped.” The meeting is silent for a moment. “And why should we be concerned about a lone dragonling?” An officer asks impatiently. I stand up, angrily. “Because if one can survive this long, he’s probably not alone. Wherever he went, I doubt he’ll be alone. I don’t think the dragonlings are gone. On the contrary, I believe they could in fact be in hiding, and we need to know where and how they escaped detection this long.” The room is silent. “What do you suppose we do?” I turn towards the meeting. “Find where the nest is. Then we track down and interrogate this dragonling, find out why he’s been trying to kill me.”
