Chapter 34: Spiral and Dance
“STOP THIS!” Came a great cry from between Alexander and me. I had just about used my stage powers on her, and not Alexander, who was at a lower elevation then me. Racla glared at us, her crimson wings beating steadily in the wind that blew.
“Stand down.” She ordered, deadly intensity burned in her eyes. “You have your orders, Alexander. You are to return her home unharmed. Is that understood?” She barks. He glares at her, then his gaze seems to soften and the burning rage drains out of his eyes, and he replies,
“Yes, Commander Racla. I will do as you say. But ONLY this once.” He growls this last part.
“Very well then. We have an emergency evacuation ship ready for you, an E.E.S. Hellfury.” Alexander’s eyes light up at the name.
“Hellfury? I always wanted to fly one.” He grins.
“Here’s your chance. But hurry, the Sapphire Dragonlings are on to you now.”
I listen, and the sound of fighter jets is in the air.
“…Why does every nation have a large air force besides us?!” I moan. Alexander suddenly grabs me, and flies down towards the port of the city, the roar of jets getting louder every second. Everything moves in a violent blur, and then I find myself holding onto Alexander’s back, on a hover cycle.
He kicks the throttle into gear, and it roars to life, just as the fighter jets pass over, and Dragonlings armed with Phazer assault rifles jump out, using jetpacks to maneuver better. They quickly begin descending towards us, and Alexander takes out a knife with a strange note attached to its hilt. He throws it without really aiming, and as it passes the Dragonlings, there is a massive explosion.
A paper bomb eh? Not too shabby- OW! The painful bubbling of a Phazer shot lets off a sharp hiss as it goes right through my arm. Alexander looks over, using one hand to steer, he turns around and places a hand on my wound, causing me to hiss in pain.
He murmurs a minor healing spell, and then returns to driving. The jet planes make a second round, firing bullets. I can see the docks fast approaching, the ship Racla described was hovering, waiting for us.
“Punch it, Alexander!” He growls.
“No time for that.” He suddenly jumps off, holding on with one hand to me, the other grabs the hovercycle and throws it at a jet. He doesn’t miss, a massive fireball goes up, debris smashing and knocking down more planes. He lands, both of our feet landing soundlessly. And then, in a matter of seconds, I was being strapped to a passenger seat in the plane, and Alexander took the controls of the evacuation plane. With a violent lurch, we were off.
“How fast does this thing go?” I dared to ask. Alexander looks over at me and grins evilly.
“Fast enough to make you lose your stomach, and it’ll stay lost for about a week.” He turned on the thrusters, and we literally went from zero miles an hour to about 200 miles per second. Needless to say, I threw up.
Once my stomach had settled a little, I took a quick look outside.
“Umm, Alexander? We’ve got company out here!” I yelled, my voice full of urgency.
“I know! Hold on, this is going to get umm…” He paused
“Bumpy?” I asked.
“Well, that works, I guess. Now hold on!” He violently tilted the aircraft to one side, and missiles soared past only seconds later.
“Whoa! That was close!” I yelled, and Alexander looked behind himself at me.
“Hey Danica! Do me a favor would ya?” He yells.
“What?!” I yell back. He closes the soundproof blast door to the cockpit.
“Thanks.” His voice comes over the radio.
“YOU STUPID… WOAH!!” I yell as a rocket slams into us, and we begin descending rapidly.
“Hold on!” Alexander yells, as we begin to balance out. I looked out of the window, and gasped.
“We’re already here?!” I exclaim in shock. Feltatus was just up ahead… this must be one fast jet! Alexander was about to reply when a violent blast sent me flying- far above the city below. I couldn’t release my wings to slow down- they’d be ripped right off my body at this velocity. I saw Alexander maneuver to me, his armor activated. He curled himself into a ball around me, as we both began to fall extremely fast- the ground was going to collide with us in about a few seconds. A terrible roar filled my hearing as we hit the ground, and everything went white, a loud ringing slowly fading out….
