Chapter 72: The Sun Devouring Shadow
Alexander opens the massive doors, and we stare into a huge stone chamber, miles across. Countless red Chaos symbols dance across the room, and in the center, lies the largest dragon I have EVER seen. Its body is covered in huge red metal plates instead of scales, and symbols of chaos glitter on them. His massive talons could crush skyscrapers, his wings could start a tornado in motion. And worse of all, is his massive head. His maw alone could swallow a dozen normal sized dragons in one go. And worse of all, is his aura. His very presence feels like walking in a dense syrup, I struggle to move at all.
“Is… that Ramok?” I whisper, fearful of waking him up.
Alexander nods, a twinge of fear lights up in his eyes. “Let’s do ourselves a favor and not wake him up while we set the stones in place.”
I nod, and we immediately, and quietly begin to place the seal stones. We get half way there, when one comes loose from the small armful I’m carrying, and hits the floor.
“Ha ha ha ha… I was wondering if you were going to slip up… and it looks like you did.” Ramok chuckles, his voice deep and burning with ancient fury. The stone crumbles beneath his claws as he slowly begins to rise, his whole body creaking.
Alexander…. What do we do?
“Only thing we can do!” Alexander yells, and begins to chant, golden chains pining the dragon down.
“It is futile!!! Give it up, boy!” Ramok snarls. He begins to rise to his feet again, the chains straining terribly.
Alexander’s face begins to sweat.
Danica… I’m sorry. I can’t hold him. We have to leave, now! We’ve got to warn everybody before he has a chance to break free of the seal!
…Alright, I understand.
With that, Alexander rushes over to me, picks me up, and flies straight up the Demon Shaft, flying as fast as he can before Ramok can chase us.
“You will not escape!!” Ramok roars, and the sound of snapping chains tells me that soon a huge, pissed off ancient dragon is about to come after us. Suddenly, violent shaking begins to rattle us, and I brave a peek behind us. My face turns pale.
“Ummm… Alexander? Don’t look now…” Ramok was scaling the side of the shaft with little to no effort, his movements so demented with rage that it creeps me out.
Alexander looks behind him and curses. “Damn! I’ll have to move fast… Danica, hold on tight, we’re going supersonic!”
That familiar feeling of my heart, my lungs, and my stomach having a family reunion comes back as we begin accelerating faster and faster. Alexander begins casting a complex spell, and strange barriers begin appearing behind us, and Ramok starts slowing down, being force to break each one to get further. As we advance, and Ramok struggles forward, the Sealing Chamber begins to collapse below us.
“The seal is coming undone, it will leave a terrible hole in the Demon Shaft. We must hurry.” Alexander shouts above the growing noise.
Far above, a light begins to shine.
The exit! I think to myself with glee, but that glee turns to worry when Ramok starts gaining ground.
ROOOOAAAR!!! Ramok lets off a terrifying roar, the force of which cracks the Demon Shaft. His body appears on the inside to literally be made of pure energy. On a second look at his eyes, they are not made of tissue but of pure energy as well.
