Chapter Twenty: Recovery Delta
I wearily woke, as the rest of the group prepared to leave. I turned to Naltheria, and ask,
“Where are we?” She sighs.
“You are in the Ruby Isle, an island off the main Gem dragonling territory, which belongs to the Sapphire Dragonlings. Alexander most likely is being kept at a high level security prison, I will get you there, but it’s up to you to get him out.” I just nod, wanting to get this over with and come home.
“Excuse me; I need to get a bit of fresh air.” I excuse myself and leave the cave hurriedly.
I was contemplating on what I should do, when I hear a noise I thought I’d never hear again. My microphone goes off.
“Finally! Danica! Where the HELL have you been?! Why didn’t you answer! We have been searching for you everywhere! We thought you were dead! WHERE ARE YOU?!” My mother screams at me on the mic, hurting my ears.
“Mother, I’m fine. I washed up on the Dragonling Isles, but Alexander helped us out of the cave we were stuck in, though we had to help him out. Mother, you’re not going to believe this, but they don’t have a king or queen. Their government is extremely unstable, and from what I’ve been able to gather, there’s an insurrection in the ChromaticKingdom. Mom, I’m worried that if we don’t do something, the chaos ravaging them will eventually begin to effect us.” I pause, and wait for her to respond.
“…An insurrection? They don’t have a king or a queen? What’s going on over there? You’ve got to tell me everything. Honey, I hate to admit it, but I think we DO need to do something about what’s going on over there. If we don’t ensure peace on their end, it’ll only hurt us back in the end. …Where’s Alexander? I want to talk… to him. Tell him I said please…”
I sigh. “And another thing. While he attempted to warn the Sapphire Elder, he was arrested by him. Whatever you were thinking about doing, I’m afraid he’s out of our hands now. He’s in some sort of prison in the Amethyst Isle.” She says nothing for a while, then…
“Honey. Stay right where you are, and get your brother out there too. We’re coming with an Extraction team to get you out of there. Then when we have thought up a strategy, I will see about getting that stupid oaf out of his cell. He and I need to have a talk. A long one.” I smile.
“I love you mom.” I barely manage to say, without crying for joy. I would see my family again soon, and my own homeland. I could hardly wait.
“I love you too, Danica. I’ll be with you as soon as I can!” Mother speaks into the mic, almost in tears.
When the carrier ship arrived, I felt relief. When mother rushed out of the carrier, I screamed with joy.
“Mother! I’m so glad to see you! It feels like forever since I saw you!” She smiles gently.
“I’m glad to see you too. Where’s Ore?” She asks gently. Ore comes running.
“Hey mom! Sorry about all of that! We just ran into some…” She holds up a hand and he quiets.
“I already know what happened. We need to get you to safety.” I nod, but ask mentally, There’s someone I need to thank. I’ll be right back.
Ok, sweetie, but please hurry. We don’t know if the dragonlings detected us.
I hurry into the cave, and quickly find Naltheria, who has started a small fire. I cough, so that she knows I’m there. “So you’re heading home, huh?” She murmurs.
“Yes, but only to set up a team to help us get Alexander back. I promised remember? I’ll keep that promise. I swear to you, Naltheria. I will do this.” She looks at me wearily.
“Thank you. Now, go… just go… please.” With that, she disappears, and I exit the now cold cave, and signal my mother.
“Alright, I’m ready to go.” I shout at her.
“Ok everyone! Let’s get out of here!” Mother yells at the soldiers, and everyone gets on the carrier ship. I only hope our return isn’t interrupted. I climb on the ship, and the hanger door closes behind me, and soon the engines roar to life, and we begin climbing into the air, first slowly, but then with increasing speed.
