Chapter Fifteen: Sapphiriana, City of Eternal Beauty
I gasped. The dragonling city was beyond worlds. Sapphiriana was made completely out of sapphire. It literally glowed with a beautiful blue aura. Alexander stood at the edge of a cliff overlooking the city. His mood was melancholy. I wondered why that was. Then I remembered that this was where his people were banished at. He probably hated the sight of the city. He winces, and I frown sharply.
“Is it that wound Alexander? I knew we shouldn’t have…” He cut me off.
“I’m FINE, Danica.” He snarls. I roll my eyes but drop the subject.
“…Hey Alexander, do you have any family?” The moment I said that, was the moment he roared like a dragon, and punched me right in the chest, full force. I blacked out.
The next thing I knew, I was laying down, with my head on a log, my torso bandaged, and I was in great pain. My armor began to hurt the injury, so I took it off, the cool metal left my shirt chilly, and I fetched a sweater. Summer noticed I had woken up, and went over to me.
“You’re alright, right?” She asked me, concerned.
I groaned as I sat up. “Yeah, I’ll be ok. What’s Alexander’s problem?” I asked her. She shrugs. Why did he do that?! It was a simple question! He’s so frustrating! I spy him, much farther off, bickering with Orph. I look over to where I was before, and realized just how far he had sent me flying. “Alexander sent me a mile away with that one strike?!” Summer nodded wearily.
“Orph caught you before you landed, but you bruised your back, so I bandaged you. Alexander was furious that Orph intervened. That’s what they’re having a row about right now.”
I narrowed my eyebrows. “I see. Do you know what the plan is?” I was hoping for something to do besides sit around here all day.
“Not in great detail, no. Wait. Here comes Alexander now, the big jerk.” Alexander was walking straight towards me and Summer. He was clearly angry at me, but didn’t affect his actions at the moment. I still kept my eyes on his arms just in case he tried to hit me again.
“Ok, ladies. Once we’re inside, you guys can go shopping. But don’t talk to anyone. With the shopkeepers, engage as little as much as possible with them.” I frowned. I doubted fairy money was accepted here in dragonling territory.
“But how would we shop?” I asked, as he tossed two large bags of coins, one for me, one for Summer.
“With these. The golden ones are Diarms, the silver are Triams, and the copper ones are Digams. The rest is easy. If anything happens while we are investigating security on the Elder’s Tower, you come and help. Is that understood?” I nod quickly, not wanting to cause further aggression. Ore opens his mouth to speak, but Alexander cuts him off. “You get to share with your sister.” He growls in annoyance.
Alexander then looks at the city. “We move at sun up. Get some sleep.” He indicates the setting sun. “We’ve got a long day tomorrow. I would rather that we came prepared.” He seemed deep in thought. I realize that just maybe, my early conception of dragonlings as a whole may just be wrong. Even I could see, with the little I actually did know, Alexander could easily pass for a extremely grouchy person, with a degree of loyalty, but not enough to relax twenty four seven.
Perhaps, there was far more to this dragonling then I thought. Far more then he was letting on. And I intended to find out.
