Chapter Six: Spiraling Vortex
I groaned, seriously tired of riding. “Any sign of him yet? He can’t have gone that far already!”
“Are you seriously saying that after he went at the speed of sound?!” My brother, Oreleanus yells at me. I prefer to call my brother ‘Ore’ instead. Much easier in conversation and he heartily agrees with that assessment. My brother has dirty blond hair, green eyes, and well built for a fairy. He’s not a giant husk on steroids, however. Although I love him to death, he also annoys the living world out of me. Like for instance…
“Sister, this little vendetta of yours seems a little unnecessary. Why are you even bothering with trash like him?” He says with slight concern.
“Brother, he tried to kill me, AND almost killed Grandpa Quin! Don’t you feel anything towards him?”
“Not really. Should I? I mean, sure, I’m not happy about what he could’ve done to hurt you, but I don’t think you would hate someone this recklessly.”
“You’re right Ore. There’s another reason I’m after him. I want to know about… him.”
“You mean… little brother?” Ore said with caution.
“Yes Ore. I’m talking about Dameus. I want to know what this dragonling knows about our little brother. Who killed him, and why he had to die. I want to know what they did with him. I need to know…” I almost break down, but I manage to compose myself.
“Danica. It’s going to be fine. We’ll get this guy. I promise.”
“Heh, I’m afraid that’s very much debatable, Pixie.” I look up, and Alexander is standing on my hover-cycle.
“Enemy target detected! Dancia! What do we do?!” A squad member yells.
“I’m impressed that you managed to find me, Crown. However, this little game was fun, but now you’re beginning to annoy me!” He stomps on the hood of the cycle, catapulting me out of the vehicle.
“Commander! Ore! Do something! Now!” One of the squad members yells furiously at my brother.
“Already on it, sir!” He jumps out of his cycle, and catches me in mid air. This actually was a good thing that he got out, because at that moment, Alexander breathed fire, making the cycle explode.
“Ah come on! Do you know how much it costs to make one of those?!” Our technician whines.
I look at my brother, and give him a smile. “Take care. I’ll handle this jerk.” Then, I jump down and land neatly on the water. I stare at Alexander intently. “You can come with me quietly, or we can get violent, dragonling!” He just cocks his head, and then throws it back and cackles.
“Come quietly? Bah! What do I look like? Chopped liver?! IN YOUR DREAMS!” He launches a sudden punch, and I manage to counter it, barely. I jump back, and scowl at him in frustration. Had to hand it to him, he was determined, but that didn’t make this any easier. He shifts into a combat stance, but then immediately jumps, only to be shot by a beam of electricity. I watch as Alexander falls into the water, and sinks.
“No! Someone! Quick! Get him! We need him for information! DO SOMETHING!” I yell in a furious rage. And then, a huge monstrous dragon-like turtle creature rises from the ocean, with a cannon attached to its shell. It smells of intensely sun cooked seaweed. It growls menacingly, and begins lumbering toward me. This day couldn’t get ANY worse, could it? The beast is about to swat me, which I was sure would easily kill me, when it pauses, as if it heard a sound, and dives frantically into the water. There is dead silence. And then, the sea literally drops down into a terrifying, swirling monstrosity, a huge whirlpool. Its size was something I could not begin to describe, nor how deep it when, but the noise was that of a monstrous dragon’s roar. As much as we tried, my squad could not get out of its pull, and soon, we all fell into the swirling vortex, and the only thoughts I had, were of that of protecting Ore. We hold hands, and pray to Aladimia to save us. Then, everything went dark…
