Chapter 70: The Ancient One
Alexander stops, after what feels like an eternity.
“Danica, we’ve arrived at the Grandfather’s Seal. It’s time to even the odds against Ramok. We’ve going to free his brother, the one who sealed him away.”
I nod, as he stretches out his arm, and a door appears in the wall, and opens slowly, revealing a massive room behind it.
“After you, Danica.” Alexander says half-heartedly.
Reluctantly, I walk forward, into the massive room. At first, I assume the room is empty, but when I blink, a huge dragon lies sleeping within, and I mean HUGE. It’s body length stretches for miles, it looks like it would be bigger than a whole city! It has no skin, but great giant metal plates of armor instead. It’s great eyes lie closed, great ivory eyelids relaxed.
“H-hello?” I squeak, afraid of making it mad. After all, the saying, ‘Leave sleeping dragons lie’ was made for a reason: a random adventurer asked a sleeping dragon for directions, and the only ones he got was to the dragon’s stomach.
“...Hello, child of the goddess Aladamia. I know why you have come. You no doubt have come to release me from my seal, and tighten Ramok’s own seal… I can already see the future at hand, you will not succeed, but I know that your heart is far too stubborn to listen to me… much like your goddess.”
It wearily chuckles.
“For all of these long years… I prayed… I begged that Ramok… my little brother would never be freed again… for his own sake. When I sealed him away, it tormented my very soul… how could I just turn on my own brother, even if he had gone mad? Should I not have tried to save him? I took the coward’s way out… the easy way. Danica… this old wyrm… learn from my mistakes, and do not pity my brother, but remember that it isn’t his fault for what he’s done.”
I nod weakly, feeling all of the old dragon’s sorrow and despair radiating from his very being. He had tried to protect his family, his own little brother, but even with his great power, failed.
“Child of the Great Conquerors, Alexander.” Alexander looks up at him a little surprised.
