Chapter 33: Battle of Sunset
(Alexander vs. Quin Crown)
That day, Feltatus City, what was left of it, burned. The violent lightning was like the wrath of the gods, the thunder their hammer striking down.
Great waves from the ocean swept inland, and rain fell like bullets. And here, in the most dismal place on Aladoria, was the final battle of Alexander and Quin Crown. My father had bravely challenged the dragonling, and for a while, things were quiet.
“So, still alive eh? I thought the storms would have killed you off.” Alexander savagely snarls. I don’t say a word, unnerved by his behavior.
“What’s the matter, huh? Fell off the wrong side of bed today?” I jested, expecting him to at least smirk. His eyes narrowed to blood red slits. Since when did he ever take our battles so seriously? Something doesn’t seem right…
“Draw.” He said in a dagger-filled voice of hate. This was defiantly not the Alexander I fought before. He had always acted like it was a little game, as if I was just some toy he just got for his birthday or something. Now, it was like he wanted me dead. Even after the attack on his hometown, he’d been upset, sure, but not anything like THIS.
Very cautiously, I drew my sword. What happened was absolutely terrifying: he immediately slashed at me, not even giving me the proper swordsmanship ritual of courtesy. He used to do that, but why not now? I immediately slashed back, my sword barely making an inch before he countered it. This was not his normal style, and it disturbed me.
“EARTH!” I roar, a massive pillar of rock sends Alexander sailing, and I begin fire boulders at him, trying to buy time. Almost immediately, a mighty beam of molten material burst from Alexander’s mouth, the sound like that of a dragon’s roar. It sliced through the pillar, effortlessly, as it screamed towards me. I raise a shield of rock over me, and run, seconds later, and the beam cuts right through.
Damn, that’s way too fast!
I reach for my magic, and send a large spout of water at the beam, hardening the material, right before a massive explosion sends me flying, the molten rock superheated the water to beyond boiling point in seconds. As I am flying, I see Alexander launching massive comets of fire, at supersonic speeds, the blazing volley fast approaching, threatening to burn me in a few seconds. I retaliate with a massive wall of earth, which blocks the fireballs.
“Is that really all you have, Dragonling?” I foolishly challenge him, not expecting his response.
A low rumble suddenly fills the air, and I peer over the wall, and swallow, as I spy Alexander entering Molten Stage. His body had literally become molten magma. It had always been theorized possible, but here I was, seeing the most powerful fire style of all, at its maximum.
“Insendor!” Alexander rumbled his voice like that of the spirit of a volcano. Eruption! CRAP. I had no time to run before the entire landscape exploded, becoming a violent lake of lava that spread for miles in all directions, stretching dangerously close to Feltatus. I was about to respond, when it began to rain. I had no time to watch it begin to harden the lava, for Alexander was attacking again. A spear of molten rock sailed past me, as Alexander came closer.
I took my sword, and rushed him, intending to strike him, when a great roar filled the air. Lightning coursed through my body, and I fell, towards the new formed bay created by our battle. There was no way I would be able to pull up in time…
I felt arms wrap around me, my momentum halted in an instant. Wearily, I looked at my daughter. “E-Elizabeth?” She smiles at me, her courage shows clear.
“I don’t care if you don’t want my help. I won’t leave you to fight him alone.” I smile weakly.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, daughter.” We turn, and face our enemy, Alexander, who burned with a scorching rage. He began to laugh, almost in insanity.
“Very well then, you will both die here!” He roars, thunder sounding like that of the last battle’s war drums.
This fight would be the last for one of us. It was not going to be us.
