Chapter Twenty Six: It’s All Downhill From Here
I landed on top of a guard, knocking him out immediately. I pull up a map on my scanners, and they seem to indicate that Alexander was being held at the southern end, we had managed to land in the north end.
“Alright guys, let’s take this one nice and easy, go slow, set your motion trackers before beginning the operation. I don’t want any surprises or body counts to report back to command. You know I hate filing the paperwork.”
“Yes mam!” The hushed voices of my team softly registered on my com set. I pressed against the wall, as a large patrol walked by. I snagged a straggler, slit his throat, and raided his corpse for any kind of clearance. As soon as I found what I was looking for, I quietly stuffed his clearance in my pocket.
“Sorry,” I whisper to the body, and hide him in a closet. “Unfortunately, I have to rescue someone.”
I jump down to a lower platform, roughly the same level as where Alexander was being kept, and silently stalked my way through the compound.
What’s going on… something’s off. Wait. Do I feel…? Yes. It’s her. Danica, you stupid fairy. She actually came for me. What a surprise. But then again, this is Danica we’re talking about… Nothing ever really surprises me. I tore a chunk of bread from my small meal, and silently chewed. Might as well take it easy and watch the show. Because if I know anything, there was going to be complications. I wonder if she could actually manage to pull this off without her getting caught. No, that’s like saying a baying elephant can’t alert an army. Something’s going to happen, and I would place good money on it happening soon. That is, if I even believed in gambling. To be perfectly honest, this was a gamble that probably wasn’t worth the risk.
The annoying presence of my master’s insistent demands to know why things are taking this long are driving me crazy. I would love nothing more than to mentally yell at him to shut up, but then I’d get in trouble. I suddenly pause, and then an impish grin crosses my face. Well, it seems she’s been busted. I can hear an alarm going off. This is going to get interesting REAL fast now. Let’s see what Crown can pull off. She may yet impress me. I take a nice relaxed drink from my cup. Now, to sit back until something actually important happens.
I was just across the hall from where Alexander was kept prisoner, when the alarm goes off. Sirens, flashing red lights, guards rushing everywhere, the works. There’s one good word for this kind of situation. Fuuuuuu! Ok, NOW I am in trouble. Hey guys! Whatever is going on, distract the guards from finding me! I’ll need a sec to get Alexander, and then hold them off until Extraction Team comes in! With that in mind, I put on a burst of speed, racing for his cell. A group of guards comes running from the hall I’m headed towards, I don’t stop, instead, I slash and hack my way through the guards, without slowing down at all.
I continue running, then skid to a screeching halt, quite literally, as I spy the cell I have been looking for, as well as the dragonling I came all this way for. He gives me a smirk.
“What took you so long, pixie?” He calls mockingly, and my blood pressure skyrockets.
“Is this really the time?!” I yell at him. He calmly, to my fury, replies,
“Nope. I guess not. Let’s get moving then.” He simply stands up and waits for me to unlock the doors, all the while I am furiously cursing under my breath. When the lock is sprung, he opens the doors, smirking. “Alright then, pixie, let’s go get em’.” I roll my eyes, and head off towards the way I came. He easily follows.
“You got a plan, pixie?” He asks, tauntingly.
I scowl at him as we’re running. “Yes. Get out of here, and then we’re going to have a nice long talk. You owe me some explanations.” It becomes his turn to roll eyes.
“You and your stupid little questions. Questions, questions. Ever get sick of asking them? Or are you hardwired to never stop asking questions until you die?” I ignore him.
We turn around and immediately bump into a group of guards.
“Hands up, now.” They bark in gruff, filtered voices. Alexander is smirking big time. For some reason, he’s enjoying the situation. But I am not. In the freaking slightest.
“What’s so funny?” I snarl. He just keeps grinning. His hands were clenched into fists while in the air.
“Hands up? Or hands down?” He asks with sarcasm.
“Now that you seem to have something to hide, down right now!” The soldier barks.
“Ok.” He lowers his hands, and then unclenches them, and two beams, one from each hand, of molten lava blaze out of his hands, blazes out and slices them in half.
“I think you shouldn’t have told me to do that.” He grins at me. I give him an impressed look.
“Since when did you learn to use Molten Style on your own? I thought that was your Redhawk Armor enhancement?” He grins.
“It USED to be my armor enhancement. Now it makes me able to literally launch people into orbit. They combined my armor with a former member of my squad.” The one who was given super strength huh? I thought to myself.
I sigh, as I hear more guards running around. “Let’s just move…” I for one did not want to be caught.
“Right behind you,” He says with indifference. We continue running, and we run right into a courtyard, where my entire squad is dead, their corpses are full of Phazer shots. As we move in, I notice that there is a huge ring of guards surrounding us. This is just PERFECT! I mentally scream.
It could be worse. We could be fed to the dragons… although they’re never hungry on a Tuesday.
Oh just shut up. We were in a bad enough situation as it was. I didn’t want any more trouble.
“Ok attention you morons! Put your weapons down, you’re surrounded! You will be taken into custody, there is no escape so drop your damn weapons!!” A captain on a rapid fire Phazer shouts at us. Even Alexander looks nervous around all of the Phazers. Every single guard had been armed with one, and they had them cocked and ready to fire. We were screwed. But then… I thought I saw something for a second, against the roofs above the guard’s heads….
