Chapter 45: Tears of a Dragon
After a while, and everyone started talking, Alexander starts to leave.
“Alexander, where are you going?” He glares at Ignitus, who seems to understand something that I missed, and barely nods.
“Yeah, Alexander, where are you going?” Ore demands. Alexander looks as if he is going to hit him, but I also notice that Alexander seems to have an air of a lack of energy. Something is up. A charge of magic fills the air as Alexander teleports, not before saying,
“It’s none of your business.” After a bit of a silence, I get up and walk out.
“Where are you going Danica?” Orph yells after me.
“I’m going to see where he ran off to!” I yell back to him. I run off, wanting to catch up with him. After a minute, I hear someone teleport onto a roof, and I hide. After a minute, I realize that it’s Alexander, who jumps down onto the street. After a few minutes, and he gets enough distance from me, I start to follow him. He must’ve known I was following, because he started making long circuits through the city, but still casually walking. Finally, he stopped, and then didn’t move again. The city had grown dark, save for a pale sheen of light.
“Danica, why are you following me?” He says, anger clearly being restricted. The soft moonlight made his dirty blonde hair seem almost silver.
“I wanted to know what you’re doing out here. Isn’t it getting late?” I reply, trying to avoid arousing his anger.
“You’re not my mother. Stop being concerned about whenever I go somewhere.” He says as he turns away from me. “Leave me alone.”
I furrow my eyebrows, and cross my arms. “No.”
He backhands me in the cheek, and sends me flying into a wall. “What the hell is wrong with you?! Can’t you just leave me alone? I’ve had enough pain, thanks to your grandfather, I don’t need it or your intrepid middling! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!” He screams, right in my face.
Instead of being mad about being flung into a wall, I whisper,
“How exactly did Grandpa Quin hurt you?”
Alexander’s red eye flare, and he punches me in the gut, making me cough up blood.
“Leave me alone, didn’t you hear me, you stupid worthless pixie scum?!? I hate you, I hate all of you! I wish you would all just curl up and die! GO AWAY!” I glare at him, and whisper,
“Fine. I’m not giving up. I don’t know why you hate me, but I intend to find out.” He snarls at me, before stomping off, furious. Sighing deeply, I walk off in another direction, hoping I wouldn’t see him, at least for a few more hours. Along my way, I bump into a dragonling with pale blond hair, but I can’t really make anything else about him out, besides pale blue eyes. He walks on, not even letting me apologize. For a couple of hours, I continue walking, until I come to a plaza. I am about to go into it, when I realize Alexander and a woman is kneeling at the fountain. I open my mouth to speak, but then I realize just what the fountain is for.
The Dedication Memorial Fountain for Noble Team, the Special Forces group within the Redhawks. The team, aside from Alexander, was all brutally massacred in their final battle in the effort to prevent us from invading the town of Quinisaki.
I realize that Alexander was visiting the honorific gravesite of his comrades, and turn to leave.
“Where do you think you’re going, Danica?” Alexander says in a calm voice. “At least introduce yourself to this lady here.” He gestures to the woman beside him. She quietly rises up.
“Umm… my name is Danica… Danica Crown.” She quietly turns to face me, tears slowly streaming down her face. I gulp silently. If she wasn’t crying, she indeed would be a beautiful sight to see. She has soft brown eyes, and long straight copper hair, with equally long braids at her sideburns. She skin is pale, with what I strangely assume are caramel colored swirls in it. Her face is rather gaunt with grief. It is almost painful to look at her.
“My name is Esara La’vantora. I am the proud mother of Nox and Tox La’vantora, lord Alexander’s comrades in Noble Team. If you excuse me, I must go.” At this last part, she stops crying, and her gaze towards me becomes rather hostile, and she leaves, her footsteps ringing loudly in the night.
I turn to Alexander, who just watches me silently.
“What?!” I bark, growing irritated with all the hateful looks I’ve been getting. He just looks at me for a few more minutes, and then looks away.
“Nothing. Let’s head back and go to bed. I want to get your butt out of her as fast as I can, so I don’t have to deal with your pathetic face.” I seethe with concealed fury, but begin walking back to the Elder’s Tower. I honestly don’t know why I even want to help these guys with their insurrection problem anymore. They’re so rude!
Alexander literally is in front of me in seconds.
“Rude is it? Excuse me, I didn’t know it was rude to hate someone for what their family has done to us.”
I growl angrily. “And just what has my family done to deserve all of this hatred?” I snap.
“Your family killed our children, women, husbands… and… wives. That’s reason enough.”
I don’t reply. How could you counter such a statement? You tell me.
