Chapter 50: Covenant: Light
When I wake up, it is not on hot sand, but ice cold marble floor. Where… where am I?
“To answer your question, Danica Crown, you are in Caza Mundos, the palace of the Covenant.” A soft voice echoes in the room.
I wheel towards the voice, but the person is hidden in shadow. “Who are you?!” I yell, trying to see him.
“Rank number seven of the Covenant, Light.” I freeze.
“Show yourself!” I manage to say bravely.
“Suit yourself.” He begins to walk out of the shadows and into the dim light.
I frown as his features are illuminated. He wears a mask like the rest of the Covenant, with the Alexandian Sun symbol on the left side of his mask, facing me. He has pale blond hair, and wears a robe that has a dark yellow upper half and a solid yellow bottom half. His sword hangs strapped on his back, in its sheath, but I can assume it won’t be like that much longer. He wears light brown sandals that look new.
“Where exactly is this?” I ask, looking around in the dark room.
“That’s none of your concern, Danica Crown. Besides, I wouldn’t tell you, even if you didn’t have your sword at my throat,” He says while I threaten him with my sword.
“What do you want with me?” I ask, getting annoyed.
“Hmm, that is a good question isn’t it?” He asks, putting his black gloved hand to his mask, as though stroking his chin.
“Don’t mock me!” I snap, getting irritated every second.
“I’m not trying. I prefer to at least have one civilized conversation every day, Theta likes to kill so many things it’s just plain barbaric. Ah well, I guess if you insist on knowing, the simple truth is I want to kill you. Signas’s orders. Don’t know why, but he says you got to die, so I just waited for the opportune moment to spirit you away so I could kill you in private.”
I scoff. “Good luck trying.” He just laughs.
“Oh no, Danica, it is you who needs the luck!” He says cheerfully before suddenly unsheathing his sword and swings his sword in a wide arc, forcing me to jump back from his deadly blade.
I watch his every motion, trying to see what he’ll do next.
“Psst. I’m right behind you.”
What?!? Is the only thing I can think of before a blinding light blasts me through a wall.
Damn! I didn’t even see him move! How can I keep up with him?
“Oh, but the thing is,” He says behind me as I swing my sword at him, “You can’t keep up. You don’t have the ability.” He says once again from behind me. Desperately, I swing my sword yet again, yet he simply disappears again.
“Oh dear, this is too boring… AT LEAST SHOW ME SOME SKILL!” He roars, swinging his sword and unleashing a massive blast of pure light directly behind it. I dodge the sword, but the energy blast hits me full force and sends me flying through walls, and out into open sky.
What… what is this power he wields?! How can I fight against it?!
“It’s called Keido.” Light says, as he walks in midair no less, straight for me.
“I doubt you can understand it, Danica, but it is one’s power, far beyond their normal Limit. A Limit is the absolute level one has regarding how much power they have or can unleash at any given time. Normally, it is impossible to activate, but some beings, such as myself, can use it. My Keido is… Hadoria Jaudia. ‘The Piercing Light.’ It concentrates high levels of Light magic into a powerful beam, and is just as fast as light itself. You cannot avoid it. And you cannot win against me.”
I growl. “So what? You have some fancy power, but is it as strong as my Stage?” He laughs.
“I doubt it will do anything at all. You cannot win, Danica.” He says with an air of superiority.
And that’s when he went flying from the force of me hitting him in the chest, my Stage strengthening my fist’s power beyond normal fairy capability.
He flies for several feet, then manages to stop. He brushes himself off, and seems very annoyed.
“Geez, that almost packed a punch there. But… it’s not enough.” He says, before disappearing in a sudden, swift flash.
And that’s when I was bombarded by what felt like thousands, no, MILLIONS of fists, bruising ribs and cracking bones, before Light unleashed a violent drop kick, which sends me screaming towards the ground, where I land in disgrace, unable to move, and drained of my power.
“I told you, you’re no match for my Keido.” He says, landing after a minute later. I begin to struggle to get out of the ground, but I am stuck fast.
“It’s no use Danica, you might as well give in. You’re going to die here.” He says, raising his sword to stab my chest. I violently struggle, as he brings his sword down.
Move… move…. MOVE! I scream to my body, and I break free, wielding a sudden power I didn’t have before, the Haven’s Cloud in my hand as I wildly swing my arm to defend myself against his blade.
It comes slowly, but a metallic shattering rends my hearing as Light’s sword breaks before the Haven’s Cloud’s power.
But wait… how…did I get this? I didn’t bring it with me from the temple…
“K-keido… of all the people I could imagine… you… of all people… but how…” Light was rendered almost speechless, his breathing labored with sudden panic.
“I… will… NOT LET YOU WIN!” He suddenly roars, and unsheathes a different sword, meaning to slash my chest, but strangely he seems to be moving in slow motion. It irritates me.
“You’re too slow!!” I roar, bringing my sword down on him, and slicing his head, then his chest and left leg, causing blood to spray in violent torrents. He chokes out, and stumbles, his mask begins to fall off.
I widen my eyes, as I recognize him as the blond haired dragonling that bumped into me in Sunneroria.
“Who…who are you really?” I whisper, mortified.
“I am… not Light… I am… just a fragment… of… a soul…” He gasps, falling forward as he fades away, into many particles of light. The Haven’s Cloud suddenly disappears, and once again everything goes black, and I’m not sure if I’ll wake up.
