Even if we are enemies, Quin, never forget that we are both leaders of a people we both care about. May I say that it is a fundamental trait of all beings, no matter how great the difference, to at least be capable in the end to understand one another.

~Alexandi Hansagki, former king of the Chromatic Kingdom

Chapter 37: Arrival

We watch as the spectral dragon disappears into the rising dawn. I hate the idea, but I see that the insurrection is also my problem, so I am going to help Alexander fight this thing. That and this ‘Ramok’ that it said was coming.

I offer him my hand to shake as a sign of truce, for the moment at least.  I don’t understand him, but I guess it’s important to try. He suddenly swats at my hand, and glares at me.

“We’re not comrades. Don’t ever assume that’s the case. And you will never understand me. Not ever.” He growls venomously at me. “And let me tell you something, Danica Crown. I don’t care to learn to understand you either.” I glare at me.

“So you can’t even make nice with people you have problems with huh? Good luck with making friends in life.” I growl, furious. I turn to leave, but he grabs and lifts me up into the air. He turns me around to look at him, despite my efforts to get free of him.

“Where do you think you’re going, Danica? It appeared to you, didn’t it? It was talking to you as well. It wasn’t just handing down destiny to just me. You’re coming with me. And so are the rest of you.” He indicates to Orph, Summer, and Ore.  He smirks.

“Not that you have a choice in the matter.” His eyes suddenly begin glowing blue.

“W-what are you doing?!” I cry out. “Just what other secrets have you been keeping from us?” As the symbol that was on his back appears multiplied in a circle around us, and a white light begins to take us away, I cry out, “What do you know about my dead brother?!”

Everything turns white. The last sensation I feel the clenching of his hands on my shoulder.

When I wake, I moan, loudly.

“Where are we?” Alexander quietly answers,

“We’re in the Guardian Temple, located in the Chaotic Desert. Now don’t touch anything. Or they’ll kill you.” I am on the alert instantly.

“Wait, who will kill us?” I ask sharply, concerned.

“Who do you think? The…” CRASH! Came the noise of something shattering, the sharp crystalline noise makes me wince. Alexander whirls around to look at Ore, who had accidently bumped into a pedestal with a very old sword resting on it.

“You FOOL!” Alexander screams in rage, his teeth clenched in terrible anger. “Now the others are going to kill you, and I’ll be forced to join them!!” He hissed, as copies of the blue symbol on his chest spiral and glow into life on his whole body. His right eye spasms, and he grinds his teeth together, as if trying to hold off some kind of urge. Suddenly, from behind us comes the sound of intense growling, the noise makes my hair on my neck stand straight up.

Several draconic beasts crawl from the shadows of the corridor in front of us, growling hideously. I notice they only are focused on us, and are circling the rest of us, but not him.

“Alexander! What’s going on?!” I cry out, frustrated. He doesn’t answer me. Instead, he’s focused on something still hidden in the shadows.

“Master, please stop this. The fairy didn’t know, it was an accident. He didn’t mean to break the artifact, sir. Please…” Whatever it was he was talking to, he was cut off by it.

“Silence, Alexander. Please tell me for what reason have you brought outsiders into our sacred temple?!

“I-I bare a message from the spirit of the fallen Grandfather Dragons, master. It warned of Ramok, he’s awakening. Because, I think it’s time that we did something. In a few weeks at the minimum, Ramok will arise again, and we won’t be able to stop him…” He is cut off again by the unseen being.

“I already know about the situation with Ramok. The Haven’s Cloud is resonating with power, like it was foretold it would when Ramok would once again plight this world. What are you suggesting we do?” Alexander manages to give him an odd look.

“We do as the prophesy demands. ‘Bring forth one from outside your secluded order, outside your race. For when the Black One’s wings blacken the world, you must bring the one to the sword bathed in the light of Haven. The sword will chose thy savior.’” The being growls.

“You would suggest that a fairy is to wield the Haven’s Cloud?  Is that why you brought them here? I will only consider it once you have finally and actually shifted.

I glare at Alexander. “What are you guys talking about? And what did he mean by shift?

Alexander scowls. “We’ve been over this, Spirit Elder. I can’t. I’ve tried.”

“You wish to know what shifting is, Danica Crown? Very well. Revert.” At his final word, the bestial monsters right in front of us stand up on two legs and light envelopes them, the light the same color as the beasts. When it fades, twelve dragonlings stand before us.

The lead one steps forward, and I have to say, she is ugly, by dragonling standards. She seems to wear a permanent scowl, and has a nose resembling that of a hog, but not as large as one. Her eyes are ruby in color, with a pink tint. I notice  several scars on her face, and also many on  her arms and lower legs. Her clothing is worn leather, where there would be holes, metal plating is patched on. Her long flowing hair was a light red color, which looked like blood in the dim corridor. She growls, then turns to look at the being concealed in shadows.

“Can we not just kill them? Come on master, please?” A loud sigh rings out.

“No, Porkessa. You may not.”

I have to bite my tongue to not burst into laughter.
