Skye pov.
I climbed in the car and just sat there, flabbergasted. After a taking my moment I came to my senses and put the earpiece back in.
"Ryan?" I said, "You got that right?"
"Every square inch," he replied happily, "What all was he saying to you?"
I remembered how Ryan could see everything I did but he couldn't hear because we couldn't risk them finding an earpiece in my ear or a wire on me. I also heard the protectiveness in his voice. I thought it was funny because we had seldom seem each other since the plane ride. I'd only heard his voice in my ear.
"They're human trafficking," I angrily stated, "And Mason wants me to lead the next group over the boarder."
"What?" the boy seemed on edge now, "You can't seriously be considering that?"
"I don't have much of a choice Ryan!" I yelled putting the car in drive and pulling away so that I didn't sit in the parking area any longer, "Mason already doesn't trust me. And if I do this without any hiccups he says he'll show me where my parents are..."
I heard Ryan stiffen in his chair on the other end of the com.
"This could be our only chance to get them out and shut the Corps Order down. This year long mission could be done before the three month mark if I can pull this off," I pleaded to him, "We can track the girls and then shut that group down after we get this. This might be our only chance."
"Yeah yeah," Ryan still didn't sound convinced. There was a long pause and I sat in silence until he was ready to continue, "I'll let Matty know and we'll get this worked out."
"Ryan!" I cried, "We both know that Matty will not be in favor of my plan. We can't tell her, and if something goes wrong then that will be on me."
Once again my computer man stopped to let the wheels turn in his head.
"Fine," he said, "But if you go and mess up or get yourself killed then-"
"-I take full responsibility," I raised my hand up in the car even though I knew Ryan could not see me. I smiled to myself and took a deep breath. This could be it.
Mac pov.
It had been a total of two months since Skye left and not a week later it was as if she was completely replaced. We had a new member, Samantha Cage. I liked her, she was a good agent. At first I thought Jack wouldn't but he seems to be coming around to her. In these last months I'd been kidnapped by Murdoc, nearly froze to death, and used Jack as a human heart pump for someone else's heart.
I wasn't sure if Cage was aware of it or not, but I was using her as a distraction from Skye. She had this ability to know when people were lying but she hadn't said anything about Skye yet so either she didn't know or she was just choosing to keep quiet about it.
"Hey Mac! Bozer!" Jack came barging in like always. Cage and Riley followed close behind and soon we were all sitting on the deck watching the sun set. Jack turned the radio on and the country station was the first thing to come one. I froze when Skye's favorite song came on; the one we had danced to that night.
I did my best to hide it without making a scene in order to change the station. Cage was sitting beside me and I knew with her attention to detail that she could tell how tense I was.
"So Mac?" She asked leaning towards me, "What significance does this song hold."
I wanted to lie. Oh god I wanted to just lie even though I knew she would know I had. But I couldn't when it came to this song and Skye.
"Just bringing up old memories," I said trying to shrug it off.
"This song isn't that old," she observed, "Can't be that old of a memory."
I sighed and looked over at her.
"It just reminds me of someone thats all," when I looked at Cage I caught a glimpse of Jack out of the corner of my eye looking at me. I turned away again and straightened my back.
"From the way you tensed I can tell this person was important to you and meant a lot. Most likely a female from the type of song..." Cage kept going no matter how much I inwardly pleaded for her to stop.
"She is still very important to me," I smiled looking down at my hands.
"Old girlfriend?" She asked. I wished she would stop asking the questions because I had gotten past dwelling on Skye leaving. But now I was starting to fall back into it.
"Hey man," Jack came over saving me from having to answer all of Cage's questions, "We're all gonna head out for the night."
He put his fist out for me to hit with my own and then turned to Cage.
"You coming or you gonna hitch hike home?" Jack smiled. Cage rolled her eyes and then stood to her feet.
"Guess I'll see you tomorrow then, Mac," she said to me with a grin. I returned the gesture and then off they went.
I thought back to when I'd gotten Cage out of the water tank and I'd said something to her then. I wouldn't change what I said at the time but it forever haunted me now. I told her I would get her out of there. I promised her.
That was the last thing I'd told Skye. I hoped that whatever she was doing she was safe and I would be able to fulfill that promise and that I would indeed see her again.
In fact, I promised myself at that moment that no matter what I would see her again. I wouldn't risk it now, no matter how bad I wanted to track her down, because it might blow her cover. But I would see her again.
I promise.

Author' Note:
Sorry this one was not as long and a total fluff chapter. But things are going to heat up for Skye very soon. And that was kind of just an intro for Cage into my story as well.
Hope y'all enjoyed.
Much love y'all!
