Skye pov.

"Ryan?" I asked. The boy never called me. But I did have my com out, maybe he was just trying to reach me and I knew if he was having to call, now he was agitated.

"Skye!" He yelled causing my heart rate to instantly speed up. He sounded distressed and I hadn't a clue as to why.

"Ryan? What's wrong?" I stood outside my car, the driver's door still open.

"They know!" He said in between coughs which was alarming.

"Who knows what?" I questioned but soon I had answered my own question.

Our cover was blown. And it wasn't only me, they found out about Ryan too and somehow they found where he was hiding out.

"They were here!" he called out bringing me back to reality, "I can't get out!"

I was back in my car in an instant and speeding down the road to a place I knew the location of but had never been to just incase I was ever being followed.

"Did they hurt you?" I had the phone on speaker now so that I could keep both hands on the wheel.

"They set the whole house on fire!" He angrily yelled, "What do you think?!"

"Right," I breathed, "Just try and breath slowly. I'm nearly there!"

I needed to call the fire department but I didn't want to hang up on Ryan. So I dug into my middle console and got out my emergency phone that only had one number on it, Matty's. This was not going to be a present conversation but I didn't have a choice now. I hit the call button and not three seconds later she answered.

"Skye?" Matty knew that I was to only use this phone for emergencies so she was already alarmed.

"Matty! Covers been blown!" I pulled into Ryan's long drive way seeing the flames from a mile away, "We need emergency vehicles at Ryan's place now!"

She began barking orders to people around her before turning back to me.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"They set his house on fire! He's trapped in there," Ryan's coughs kept coming through the phone but he'd stopped talking.

"Don't go in!" Matty instructed.

"Matty he's gonna die if I don't!" I yelled back at her. I heard her shift uncomfortably before answering.

"Fine but if you can't find him you get out of there! Emergency vehicles are on their way but they are a ways out. I don't want to lose two operatives," I heard the concern in her voice even though I knew she didn't like to show it.

"Yes ma'am," I lied. Truth was I wasn't leaving that house without that annoying brat. My car screeched to a halt and I ran out of it before I was able to put it in park. I pocketed the phone which had Matty on the other end, on speaker, so that if anything else were to happen she would be able to alert our rescuers.

"Ryan!" I screamed covering my face from the heat. I couldn't see anything but flames. There was a small path to my right so I went that direction. After what felt like forever I saw a boy's body in one of the back rooms. I ran that way, my skin screaming with each flame that touched it.

"Ryan?" I rolled him over to see his gray face. He was still coughing which was good because that meant he was breathing. His eyes were closed but as long as he was alive I could work with that. I began dragging him towards the exit. I was nearly there when a large beam fell from the ceiling. I tried ducking but it caught my arm. Luckily it wasn't on fire yet. I screamed in pain, pulling my legs up and thanking God I was a skinny, short girl so that I could move in such a way. I pushed it up with my legs only enough to get my arm out. It fell hard to the ground then and I sighed in relief. I went to sit up off my back but I was jerked back down due to the fact that the beam was now on my hair.

I didn't think twice before reaching down to my boot and pulling the knife out of it. I cut it in a rugged way in order to free myself. When I stood back to my feet after that was done I notice my hair was now barely past my shoulders while it use to be down my back.

I hauled Ryan back up and we finally made it out the door. I pulled him as far away from the house as I could before I fell to the ground coughing myself. I still couldn't hear sirens so I checked for a pulse on Ryan myself and smiled when I felt a strong beat under my fingers. I pulled the phone out of my pocket and laughed into it.

"I've got him," I said to Matty.

"Well," another voice entered my ears instead of Matty's but it wasn't coming through the phone, "Guess I'll just have to do this the hard way."

Mason turned the corner of the house with gasoline and a lighter in his hands. He dropped them and pulled a gun. I had studiously left mine in my car in my rush to get to Ryan.

"Don't you touch him," I said standing in front of Ryan's limp body.

"Oh it wasn't him we were going for," Mason cocked the gun and raised it. I didn't have time to respond before he pulled the trigger and I fell to the ground. The phone fell out of my hand and I could not reach it but I knew Matty was still on the other end. There was this awful pain in my side. I looked down to see red seeping through my blue shirt.

"You're buying me a new jacket if this stains," I said looking up at Mason with a smirk. I wanted to cry out but I knew that would just satisfy him and I was right because after my remark he marched over to me and pushed his boot into my wound.

I screamed not able to hold that one in. The pain was overwhelming and I couldn't move with him pushing on me like that. At last he let go and I rolled over to my back breathing very rugged and harshly.

"Put her in the car," he said to his two goons that were now coming out of the shadows of the night. They came and one picked up my top half while the other grabbed my legs. I wanted to kick and try and get away but I wasn't able to do anything. And if doing this meant they were going to leave Ryan alone then I would have to let them take me and find a way to get out of it later.

A tear raced down my face as I thought about how Mac had told me to stop putting other people before me like that when it came to my own well being, because thats what he thought I always did. So right before they threw me in the back end I looked back at Ryan and the hidden phone laying right next to him and smiled.

I knew Mac was no where around but I still said it to him in a whisper as if he was here...

"I'm sorry."
