Mac pov.

We barely got a wink of sleep after returning to Jack's place. Skye didn't even attempt to sleep, she only sat out on the balcony the rest of the night staring out at the moon. I thought about joining her because I had so many things to ask her, so many things to say to her. Then again, maybe that wasn't the best time. So I kept my mouth shut. I got a couple hours of shut eye on the couch before I was wide awake and out the door.

"Mac," Skye stopped me slowly and carefully pulling her jacket on, "heading in early aren't you."

I looked at my watch, it was only half past five in the morning. But I couldn't wait any longer.

"Yeah," I chuckled running a hand through my hair, "guess I didn't realize it was so early."

"Mind if I come too?" She spoke softly, like the Skye I'd known back when we first met.

"Of course not," I smiled and held the door open for her to leave first. I'm sure Jack would know where we'd gone by the time he got up and if not he could just call. I'd put the man through a lot lately, letting him sleep was the least I could do.

We were in my car driving towards Phoenix with only the light sound of the radio to keep us sane.

"How's your shoulder," I spoke up after a moment

"How's your shoulder," I spoke up after a moment. I didn't know what else to say. It was like we were two complete strangers in this car but just last night I thought we'd become more again.

I was wrong.

Skye has turned into someone I didn't even know anymore. I wasn't sure if it was because of Brody or what all she might of been through the year we have been apart. I remember when I came back a different person from the military. It wasn't an easy thing. And besides the story she has told me, who knows what other hell she's seen.

"It's fine," she shrugged as if it was the least of her concerns. And I'm sure it was. I had too many thoughts on how she could of come to obtain such an injury, but only one made sense. Brody did it to her. I knew he must of been wasted last night, and he and Skye had already gotten into an argument once that night. Who's to say that they didn't get into another one when she got home. I knew I should of just taken her back to my place... but I didn't want to push anything. Things had already been tense between us since she got back and Brody showing up only made things worse.

"We're going to find him Skye," I assured her looking over at the stern look on her face, "I am going to do everything in my power to find our boy and bring him home."

"Don't think that I need you to fight my battles for me Mac," she snapped at me in annoyance. It took everything in me not to turn my head to her in surprise.

"Your battle?" I said astonished at her words, "This is our son making it OUR battle, together. So don't think you're going to be doing this alone."
