XLV : The Practice

MATT

"A-Are you for real, Matt!? As in!?" Tanong sa akin ni Heidy nang maka-recover siya.

"O-Oo, sabi ni Peter kanina." Sagot ko sa kanya.

Lalong nanlaki ang mga mata niyang kanina pa nanlalaki. "Oh my gee! S-Si Peter labs ko!?" Tanong niya.

Napatango ako sa kanya.

"That's nice to know, Matt! I'm so happy for you." Naka ngiti at parang maiiyak na sabi niya sa akin.

"B-But I am not happy." Sagot ko sa kanya.

Natigilan siya at matamang napatingin siya sa akin. "What!?" Tanong niya, "why wouldn't you be happy?" Dagdag niya.

"K-Kasi hindi pa ako nakapag perform sa harapan ng marami." Sagot ko sa kanya.

Napatingin siya sa akin, "so what about it?" Tanong niya.

"You don't get it, Heidy. This is my first time and I'm not sure if I'll do it right." Sagot ko.

Pumikit siya, huminga at muling tumingin sa akin, "you have practice, right?" Tanong niya, tumango naman ako. "Yun naman pala, you have practice." Dagdag niya.

"But still, Heidy." Salungat ko.

"Matt. Practice makes perfect —no, scratch that. Practice makes better. Kaya nga may practice kayo para maturuan ka nang mga dapat mong gawin on that day." Paliwanag niya, "That's why don't worry, you'll be fine. You'll do fine." Dagdag niya.

"But—" I said.

"No buts, Matt. I know you'll be just fine." Sabat niya.

"I hope so, Heidy." Sabi ko sa kanya.

"Trust me, you'll be." Sagot niya, "and if ever man na kabahan ka, just know that I'll be there, watching you. I'll be with those many people watching you kaya don't worry na." Pahabol niya bago niya ako tapikin sa balikat.

...

Later that day...

Parang kaninang umaga lang namin pinag-usapan ni Heidy ang practice namin pero heto ngayon ang vice president ng glee club sa harapan namin.

"Good afternoon, everyone." Bati niya sa amin. "I'm very sure that you're all wondering why someone like me is here, in front of you. Am I right?" Tanong niya.

Tumango naman ang mga kaklase ko. "Well, I know very well that all of you are aware of the up coming event of our university next week." Sabi niya, "and in line with that, are the university's clubs' performances, specifically the glee club's." Dagdag niya.

"The glee club, where I am in, will be doing its performance at the very first day of the university's festival and I am here to just give this" sabi niya bago niya i-angat ang kamay niya na may hawak ng mga papel, "to the members of the club who belong here, in this class." Dagdag niya.

"I am Reggie, by the way, the vice president of the glee club." Pakilala niya sa aming lahat, "and please, glee club's members who are here, fall in line and get the copies of the songs and the schedule of our practices." Sabi niya na siya namang ginawa ng mga kaklase ko.

May mga kaklase pala akong part ng glee club. Ngayon ko lang nalaman.

"Okay, that's it." Sabi niya nang makuha ko na ang copies ko.

Ako kasi ang huling nasa pila at kumuha.

"Thank you for lending me your time." Pasalamat niya sa amin, "thank you and I'll take my leave now." Dagdag niya bago siya naglakad palabas ng kwarto ng section namin.

...

"Matt, patingin nga ng schedule mo." Sabi sa akin ni Heidy nang makabalik ako sa upuan ko.

Kaagad ko naman iyong ibinigay sa kanya, "oh my gee!" Kaagad na tili niya.

"B-Bakit?" Alalang tanong ko sa kanya.

Malungkot naman siyang tumingin sa akin, "this..." Sabi niya.

Bakit siya malungkot eh schedule lang naman yun?

"Oh, what about it?" Tanong ko sa kanya.

"Ano ka ba!" Singhal niya sa akin, "this paper makes me sad." Dagdag niya.

"Bakit nga?" Tanong ko sa kanya ulit.

"Because this paper means that our time will be lessen." Sagot niya, "because I, too, have my own schedule of practice." Paliwanag niya.

Oo nga pala, kasama pala si Heidy sa cheering squad ng university.

"Ang konti na nga ng time natin dahil sa academic subjects tas kokonti pa lalo dahil sa practice." Naka nguso niyang sabi.

Napabuntong hininga naman ako sa sinabi niya, "well, I guess we just have to deal with it until the festival ends." Sabi ko.

Napatango naman siya, "yeah, I guess so." Sagot niya.

...

The day after...

PETER

"Good morning, everyone!" I greeted the whole club members who are gathered inside the club.

"Good morning, Pres!" They greeted im chorus.

I nodded, "so today marks actually the second day of our practice supposedly but we're just going to start the real practice today because yesterday was for the giving of the copies and schedule." I explained and they nodded.

"And as agreed, Matt will be doing the solo performance under my supervision, while the grouped performance will be under Vice President's supervision." I added and yet again, they nodded.

"One more thing, the officers and I have discussed about something and I'll be taking the chance to explain it further with you." I added, "we actually thought of doing a A capella but we are not sure about it yet. A capella is actually done by singing with only using mouth and being inexperienced with this, I guess it's quite a hard task to be done and we'll just probably let you all know if we're gonna do it or not." I said.

"So, that's it for now. For those who are included to the grouped performance, go to this side." I said and move my hand on the left side where all of the members went, leaving Matt alone. "You may start practicing with Vice President and the rest of the club's officers." I said.

"And Matt..." I said and looked at Matt, "follow me for we will be doing the solo performance practice at the theater." I explained to him, he nodded.

"Guys, be good." Paalala ko bago ako magsimulang maglakad, "you don't want to get the officers angry. You know what I mean, especially the old members here." I added as I was smiling at them.

"Let's go?" I asked Matt.

"O-Okay." He answered and I started walking.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine and I know that you'll do good." I said as we walking side by side. He just nodded again.
