Short Story #49 - Running - Annabeth and Percy

(A/N: VERY IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END. PLEASE READ IT)

The sound of a gun going off accompanied by the announcers voice booming across the raceway saying, "GOOOO!!!!" starts the race. The runners take off. Annabeth and Percy are running in a 5k today. Piece. Of. Cake.

Demigods spend half their life running from monsters, so this in no big deal.

"You know what Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth taunts.

"What Wise Girl?" Percy responds, biting the bait.

"I'm so gonna win!" She yells as she pulls ahead of him. She wore grey and green and blue today. Green running shoes that match Percy's, grey running shorts, and a blue sports bra. Her hair is up in a messy ponytail, just the way he likes it.

"No way! Watch your back." Percy warns half-jokingly. He starts sprinting to catch up with her. He is wearing the green running shoes, grey basketball shorts, and his blue shirt is around his neck already.

Percy catches up in no time and jumps on Annabeth's back. "WOAH!" Annabeth says as she stumbles a bit from the sudden cargo. She steadies herself and throws Percy off, who lands on his feet.

They stop in the middle of the track while a grumbling runner mumbles about stupid young love. In response that not very nice person, Percy grabs Annabeth by the waist and crashes their lips together. She kisses back, but Percy pulls away too soon and starts running.

"NO FAIR!!" Annabeth calls after him as she starts to pick up her pace.

Soon enough, they have passed the 1K mark. Not even breaking a sweat.

The 2K marker goes by in a flash and they are still neck and neck, or foot and foot, or leg and leg, or whatever.

At the 3K mark, Annabeth has fallen behind a little, but it is all part of her plan.

During the final stretch after the 4K mark, Annabeth catches up to Percy. They are both in the front and are competing for both first place overall, and first place in their gender and age group.

The finish line comes into view and they both give it their all. Percy crosses a little before Annabeth and quickly turns around to catch her in his arms.

The finish line ribbon dangles from in between their sweaty bodies as their lips connect in a breathless fury. Everyone around them hollers and cheers. The couple is just so cute and full of love that no one can hate them, except maybe a monster...

They pull apart, feeling as if they ran a 100K instead of a 5K.
