Short Story #40 - Ukulele - Katie and Travis

Travis has a plan. He is finally going to tell his crush how he feels. He grabs his ukulele, ruffles his hair, gets on his bike, and rides to school.

Katie gets up to the sound of an alarm blaring. She rolls out of bed and onto to floor. She eventually gets up and gets ready. She catches a ride with her older brother to school.

"Katie!" Annabeth screams as Katie comes into view.

"Annabeth!" Katie screams back even more enthusiastically.

"You saw each other yesterday." Percy says with his hands over his ears.

"Shhh. Ballerina's don't complain." Katie says as she hugs Annabeth. Percy pouts more.

Travis walks up. "Why is Percy pouting?" he asks.

"Katie called him Ballerina." Annabeth plainly states.

"You know how much I hate that nickname." he says with playful venom.

"Aww. You know you love me." Katie jokes.

"No. I love this one." Percy points to Annabeth.

"Thanks babe." Annabeth rolls her eyes as Katie puts her hands over her heart and fakes a heart attack.

The bell rings. Without another word, they all split and go to class.

- TIME SKIP -

"Class dismissed." the teacher says. It's lunch time and the time for Travis to activate his plan. He gets out his lunch and his ukulele. He walks over to his regular table, where all the Camp Half-Blood guys sit, and sets down his lunch. He breaths deeply. All the guys pat his pack as he walks over to the girls table, ukulele in hand.

"Katie?" he says, well more like questions.

"Yes?" she responds almost immediately.

"Can you stand up please?" he asks.

She does so, and he starts to play to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star".

'Twinkle, twinkle little star,

How I wonder what you'll do

Up above the rest do high

Like a diamond in the sky,

Twinkle, twinkle beautiful Katie,

Will you please go out with me?'

He finishes and looks up at Katie from where he finished on the ground on one knee.

"Yes" she says as she launches herself at him. He catches her. A collective "AWE" is heard from the crowd that gathered. Annabeth squeals. Katie laughs as they both stand up and Travis grins as their hands find each other. The guys cheer and all is well.
