"Y/N and Wonwoo, you two are paired together. Your topic is nature," your Literature teacher read off the list of partners to the class.

All heads seemed to turn towards the two of you and suddenly you were the centre of attention.

The brightest and happiness girl in the class was partners with the quietest and sad looking boy. You loved to talk to people and he never spoke to anyone. You were a big fan of skinship and Wonwoo hated other people touching him. Two polar opposites had to work together and create a literary piece of art.

The assignment was to create an analogy using the given topic and come up with a subject that interested the two of you. It could be anything, as long as the project was detailed. It needed to paint a picture for your teacher using words.

You walk over to your partner and sit down in the empty desk beside him. Wonwoo didn't say or do anything and continued reading his book. Seeing that he didn't want to talk right now, you leave him be and wait for the teacher to finish speaking.

"I'm Y/N!" You introduce yourself to your partner that you would be working with for the next month.

Wonwoo looks up from his book and his sharp gaze intimidates you. His eyes look so cold and his face is blank. "I know who you are. Y/N, the sunshine of the class. Always happy and positive, nothing could bring her down." The tone he spoke in was cold and sarcastic, it took you aback.

Sitting up more, you glare at the boy back. "Well, Mr. Know-It-All, we know all about you too. Jeon Wonwoo, the class killjoy. Why are you always so negative?" You question him, feeling yourself slowly becoming angry.

Your partner closes the book he's reading and looks at you, "Why try so hard in life when all of it goes to waste when you die." He sees your face scrunch up in confusion and says, "Don't make that face. You know why I feel like this, everyone does."

And he was right, you did know. Wonwoo had a rough past of violent bullying which resulted in poor mental health. The boy was depressed for a long time and only began to get better when he started high school, but he shut himself away from everyone.

You immediately sink into your chair and feel guilty. You shouldn't have taken it so far and been so insensitive. "I'm sorry."

Wonwoo only shrugs, "I saw it coming. Sorry I was so rude."

The boy was honestly more interested in the fact that someone was actually talking to him. People would usually stop talking to him after he gave them a cold response, but Y/N fired back. It made Wonwoo smile and realized that maybe she would be a good friend.

Silence settles between the two of you as the rest of the class is working with their partners. He opens up his book again and starts reading. All you could do was stare at him reading and think.

An idea pops into your head and you sit up again.

"Hey, why don't we make our project on the beauty of life and what it has to offer for us?" You suggest.

He looks up from his book and stares at you. It seems that he's thinking about how it would work and how it relates to their topic of nature.

"Okay, let's do it."
