When you found out that you were going to have new neighbours, you were not happy.

At 7 years old, you wanted everything your way and you did not want a new family beside you. The thought scared you and change was something that you didn't learn how to accept yet.

So when your family went to go greet the new neighbours, you hid behind your mom's leg when their front door opened.

You remember listening to the adults talk and the mention of your name made you look up at the stranger.

"Hello Y/N!" The new lady crouched down to meet your height and wore a beautiful smile on her face, "I'm Mrs. Hong!" Her eyes were sparkling and she seemed so happy to meet you.

A small greeting left your lips as you remembered the manners you were taught. The fear was obvious on your face and she must have noticed it. You didn't like new people and preferred to stay inside your comfort zone.

"I have a son that's just a little older than you, maybe you two could play together! Joshua! Could you please come down?" She called behind her back into her new house.

Footsteps could be heard and you were soon greeted by a young boy.

"Hi! I'm Joshua!" He smiled and showed off his missing tooth. He was radiating happiness, just like his mother. It must be a Hong thing.

"Hello there! This is my daughter, Y/N. She's a little shy." Your mom nudged you forward and you could no longer hide.

The young boy's face lit up at the sight of a new friend and his smile grew bigger.

"Maybe you could play with Y/N?" Mrs. Hong suggested to her son, her beautiful smile never once leaving her face.

"Yeah!" Joshua said excitedly as he turned back to you.

You stared at the boy and his eyes caught your attention. There was a sparkle of adventure shining in those chocolate eyes. It was captivating and pulled you in.

"Come with me, Y/N!" He took ahold of your hand and pulled you into his new house.

And that's how the two of you met. Back when you were 7 years old and he was 8. Joshua and you became best friends over the years despite the age gap. He was your rock and you were his youth.

Whenever you were having difficulties, you simply walked next door and talked to your best friend. He would give you the best advice and calm the storm in your heart. He gave you direction, strength, and a hope that you would lose sight of from time to time.

The boy was very mature and would act too serious sometimes. He put a lot of stress and pressure on himself, even when he was doing everything perfectly. Your childish actions would bring him back to his age and let him relax. You were able to get him to let loose and have some fun whenever you would hang out.
