~
As a kid, you were ecstatic to join a real dance studio. It finally felt official that you were a dancer and you were taking this passion seriously. This was the place that was going to be your second home for a good chunk of your life. You found it so easy to be yourself during dance class and let yourself relax. You easily made friends in your classes and looked up to the teachers there. After school was your favourite part of the day and it was when you were able to do what you love. Studio Danceology helped you grow as a dancer and shaped you into who you are today.
When a new kid stepped foot into your class, you greeted him with a big smile and words of welcome. You were happy to add another member to your dance family and help them grow as a dancer as well. What you didn't know was that this kid was going to become your rival in the studio, a frenemy of sorts.
Lee Chan was almost too good at dancing. When you first saw him dance, you couldn't take your eyes off of him. Choreographing the piece himself, you could almost see the music running through his veins. His movements were so fluid but sharp at the same time. They were clean and precise yet filled with so much emotion and passion. His dancing wasn't meaningless, you could see that from the passion in his eyes and expression on his face. The boy captivated you and made you forget about your surroundings.
But after seeing him dance, you learned something about him. He was sweet and kind, but seemed incredibly arrogant. He loved being praised by the fellow dancers, soaking in all of their compliments and merely thanking them. The fact that he knew he was all that really bugged you.
So you wanted to prove him wrong, that he wasn't all that. Maybe there was someone better than him.
And that's how your friendly rivalry began.
The rivalry consisted of you two bickering with each other during breaks and pointing out flaws when dancing. If anything, this was just helping the two of you improve in your skills. Class with Chan was so much fun, you couldn't lie about that. Whether it was trying to see who could perfect the choreography fastest, who could freestyle better and win over the class, or seeing who could psych the other person out while performing.
Although you two relentlessly bickered and made not so nice remarks to each other during class, you were still friends. Everyone in the dance studio knew that you two didn't actually hate each other, but both of you denied it. Even though you would help Chan when he couldn't get a certain move down in a routine and stay behind class just to teach him yourself. Even when you fainted during a practice session and Chan rushed over to you immediately, helping you lay comfortably on the ground, covering you in his jacket and giving you water. You two still "hated" each other even when you cried in the other's arms after losing a competition that you both worked so hard on.
The frenemy relationship was more of a healthy competition between each other and always helping each other out. You both wanted to push yourselves to do your best and by trying to outdo the other person. It was a constant motivation and excitement for each other.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" You sit beside the boy after class was over, watching him pack up his things. The room was beginning to empty and the practice room began to get quiet.
The annual city dance competition was tomorrow and both of you were so excited. Ever since Chan joined the studio, you and him competed for best solo piece. It was one of the most important days of the year and meant so much to everyone in the studio. The day was for dancers to prove their skills to the audience and get their name out to the public. There were so many people that would attend and watch all the performances. This day opened more opportunities for dancers and helped shape their future.
