Joshua Hong wasn't anyone special. He was just an average kid, going through school, without any idea of what his future was going to look like. He just tried his best to make the most of out everything and seize the moment in the best way he could.

But Joshua Hong was one very important thing. He was your best friend.

The two of you grew up together, going to the same elementary school, middle school, and now high school. You watched each other grow up and become the people you are today. You always had each other's backs and helped each other grow.

You couldn't ask for a better best friend. He supported you throughout all of your phases (even the weird ones) and never once made you feel unloved. Joshua was always cheering you on and helping you achieve your dreams. Without him, you wouldn't have been able to accomplish so many things. No matter how many times you tell him that he was a big reason for all of your success, he would never admit it. The boy would always say that he only supported you and that you were the one responsible for achieving your dreams.

And of course you did the same for your best friend. Working hard in school, finding a job for himself, helping out in his family, spending time with you, he was a great kid. He was getting good grades in all subjects, but nothing ready stuck out to him. Obviously he had his interests and hobbies; singing, playing the guitar, reading, watching netflix, trying out new cafes, really just a normal teenager. So when decisions about his future needed to be made, Joshua tried out so many things in attempt to find his niche, his own thing, what he was good at.

But nothing was pulling him in. Nothing sparked his interest and there wasn't anything he was passionate about. There wasn't anything he was really good at it. The endless circle of not finding what he liked built up frustration over time. Seeing his best friend talk to his own mom about their accomplishments really stuck with him.

The boy saw the proud look on his mother's face after hearing all of his best friend's accomplishments (they were like her second child after all). Of course his mom was proud him, his family loved Joshua no matter what. They weren't stressing out over the boy's undecided path, it was only him that put all this pressure on himself. He just wanted to make his mom proud as well and be able to brag about all of his accomplishments. He wanted to talk to his parents about his success and make them feel proud about the son they raised.

His only escape from all of this was through music. Singing, playing the guitar, becoming apart of his church worship group, all of it was a break from the world. These moments gave the boy a chance to breathe and not feel the pressure of his future on his shoulders.

Joshua could sing out all of his stress, strum away his worries, and let the music take him to another world. He would always get lost in the music and it felt like he was a different person.

You knew when he was feeling very stressed by the callouses on his fingertips from playing too much guitar. In moments like those, you would just hug him and tell him that it was okay to not have a decided future. He knew that it was his fault for comparing his life to yours, but he couldn't help it. He loved you so much and saw how happy you were, he wanted that too.

After one particular week of school, when all assignments were due and teachers dumped tests onto the students, the two of you needed a well deserved break. And just to your delight, a festival that you both loved was coming up.
