Chaeyoung has been away on a week long business trip in Busan.
To Lisa, the week feels like a year without her wife by her side.
Lisa, and their 3 year old daughter, Young Mi, were preparing for Chaeyoung's long awaited return to their home in Seoul, and Lisa feels as if she was back in high school, butterflies in her stomach as she welcomes her girlfriend into her home for the first time.
-
"Hello?"
"Rosie! How are things in Busan? You didn't text me this morning. Have you eaten yet? How is the weather? Are you wearing enough layers, because I know how could it can be this time of year, I don't want you getting sick. But if you do get sick, you know Young Mi and I will take real good care of yo-" As soon as Lisa so much as hears Chaeyoung's voice she couldn't stop bombarding her with questions. Lisa and Chaeyoung have never been apart for this long, Chaeyoung being so far away in Busan. Lisa was worried that something bad might happen to Chaeyoung, and she wouldn't be around to help her wife.
"Baby, I'm-"
"And how are your allergies, are you remembering to take your allergy medicine? What about your vitamins that you take every morning-" Lisa is suddenly cut off by a laughing Chaeyoung.
"Lalisa, honey. I'm doing fine, I promise." Chaeyoung couldn't help but giggle as a blush crept onto her chubby cheeks. It made Chaeyoung feel warm inside, knowing that Lisa spends her days and nights worrying about her wellbeing.
"I-I'm sorry baby. It's just... you've been away for so long, and I just love and miss you so much. I can't wait to see your beautiful face and kiss your lips again. When will you arrive in Seoul?"
"I just got on the train, so I expect to be home in 4 hours, tops." Chaeyoung let's out a satisfied sigh knowing that she will be reunited with her beautiful family in only four hours.
"What's wrong, Rosie?" Lisa hears her sigh through the phone, and as usual she worries for her wife.
"Nothing's wrong, Lis. I just can't wait to see you and YoungMi. By the way, how's our little Youngie?"
"Youngie is doing great. She ate a lot. As usual. But she really misses you Rosie." Lisa smiles and shakes her head as she glances over at their daughter, snacking away at the kitchen table.
"Well I'm glad that she's taking after my eating habits. And tell her that I'll be home very soon. And I have a surprise for her." Chaeyoung had bought Young Mi a 500 piece butterfly puzzle. Young Mi may be a toddler, but she probably has a higher IQ than Lisa does. Which isn't saying much, but the kid is three for Christ's sake.
Young Mi absolutely loves butterflies and everything about them. Not because of their beauty, but because of how they got to be beautiful. She valued the fact that butterflies start as a small ugly caterpillar and have to go through a lot to become a beautiful butterfly. At three years old, all Chaeyoung remembers caring about was whether or not it was time to eat yet. (Young Mi; an intellectual)
"Well I don't really have to tell her because you're on speaker," Lisa blurts out before Chaeyoung accidentally ruins Young Mi's surprise.
"Hi Youngie baby! How are you doing? I miss you so much! Has Mommy done a good job reading you bedtime stories?"
"Well... I did have to help Mommy on a few words, but it's ok, I still enjoyed the book. Mommy even cooked a great dinner without burning down the house!! I wish you could have been here, you would be so proud of her." Young Mi explains.
Lisa huffs out in embarrassment at the fact that her three-year-old had to correct some of her words while reading her a bedtime story. As if The Great Gatsby could even be considered a bedtime story for a toddler. Heck, Lisa didn't even understand what was going on in the book from the start.
