New Year Special

Smiles glided on lips like skates on ice.

. . .

Universe Three

You were dragged out of your apartment by the two loudest people in the entire universe, Seungkwan and Seokmin. Both equally amazing at karaoke but equally unbearable when they got rowdy.

When you were gifted the pretty white skates by Jeonghan and Joshua, you knew this day was coming. For the longest time, you had refused to skate, not seeing the point in putting yourself on ice with two blades strapped onto your feet.

What they didn't know when they barged into your place was they woke up a sleeping lion. Jihoon had returned from overseas last night and was absolutely exhausted as he crashed onto your handy pull out sofa. To be honest, you were unsure about the number of times said sofa has been in use by these boys.

Perhaps you should start charging?

Because Jihoon was returning last night, the six of you agreed not to have a party as there would a conspicuous absence from the small songwriter. Although that didn't mean that the rest of them didn't attend parties, it just meant that you couldn't.

. . .

Jihoon had thoroughly thrashed the two puppies by the time you had dug out the skates from the back of your shoe rack. You had stashed it there in hopes that it would be a long time before its use, but it seems that wasn't the case.

As you walk through the short hallway you run into a half-sleepy half-annoyed Jihoon who had still had his pajamas on with his black hair sticking up in interesting places. You fought the urge to ruffle the messy locks, knowing he would not appreciate it.

"So I take it you're not going?" You ask as he looks around your apartment for the guitar that he had stashed there for the past few years.

After grabbing it and slinging it over his chest, the two of you walk to the living room where Seungkwan and Seokmin were busy playing with your little turtle. When Jihoon plops himself back onto the sofa, he strums the instrument a few times before properly responding to your earlier question, "I'll pass, I'm still pretty tired and I just got some inspiration for a song."

"Okay," you begin to herd the two out of your place and wave goodbye to Jihoon.

When the door shuts, Seokmin and Seungkwan waste no time in dragging you out of the building and shoving you into the car. Squashed between the two beagles, you look at Joshua who sat at the wheel and Jeonghan in the passenger's seat. Your voice was low as you demanded, "Who's bright idea was this?"

Jeonghan's eyes meet yours in the mirror as he curls his lips into a little smirk, "Who do you think?"

"I will make you suffer," you ground out while fending off Seungkwan's elbow which wanted to take residence on your thigh. "Dude, what are you doing?"

The chubby-cheeked friend shrugged, "I wanted to rest my arm, and since the armrest is being used as your seat..."

"No on all accounts," you use a finger to jab his cheek playfully, "I am not going to be your armrest. Understand?"

"Party pooper."

. . .

Joshua struggled not to laugh at your poor unbalanced self, wobbling quite pathetically on the large expanse of ice. There was a surprisingly little number of people here today, perhaps it's because the five of you decided to one void of much else besides the rink.

Regardless, he felt a little bad looking at the way you clung to the wall and while he held his laughter in, the others didn't. Feeling a little bad, he skates over to where you stood, desperately trying not to fall.

"You doing okay?" His voice startles you a bit, and you almost slip.

After regaining your balance, you turn towards him and frown, "No. I seem to suck terribly at this."

Joshua swiftly takes one of the hands that was grasping the wall with one of his, "Why don't you skate with me for a while until you get the hang of it?"

Smiling appreciatively, you nod while looking down at your feet worried about slipping. "Thanks."

. . .

When you're brave enough to let go of the wall, Joshua begins skating laps around the rink while you waddle your way around the edge of the rink, always within arm's reach of the wall.

"You should stop looking at your feet," Jeonghan's advice makes you look suspiciously at him.

"But how else am I supposed to make sure I don't fall?" Your voice shakes slightly with apprehension as Jeonghan skates in front of you, gliding backwards.

"Trust me," his voice was soft and inviting and you look at him before your gaze began to fall to your skates. "Hey, eyes on me."

Snapping your gaze back to him, you find that the lack of balance was becoming less of balance as you kept your eyes fixed forwards and not down.

. . .

The fun day ends with Seokmin jokingly challenging you to a race around the rink, you know better than to fall for his teasing, but you somehow end up doing it anyway. All is well, you're even winning until you forget one vital piece of information.

You had never skated so fast that you needed to put effort into stopping and Seungkwan was getting awfully close to you. The two of you kind of smash right into the rink's wall and the male lets out a pained groan.

"I am so sorry," you say, completely winded by the entire situation, "Are you okay?"

When the two of you manage to get off the rink and remove your skates, he smiles, "I am, as long as you buy me hot chocolate."

"It's a deal."

. . .

Whether or not the new year was going to be smooth or rough, you knew that there would be your friends there to guide you through the bad and the good.

. . .

a/n here you all are! wishing everyone an awesome new year filled with love & happiness.
