Hoshi
Soonyoung's dark eyes swept coldly across the crowd, daring anyone, civilian or noble to emit a syllable in argument.
. . .
You were in a very compromising position, to say the least, no doubt that anyone that walked by would get the wrong idea. Soonyoung was braced over top of you, eyes boring into yours, not saying a single word as he studied the controlled emotions on your face. Your eyes were shielded, hiding what feelings were truly underneath, your mask has been on for a very, very long time. It would take more than that for it to slip.
But as the moment drew longer, your eyes softened and Soonyoung saw what he had been looking for, the love that fluttered beneath the layer of sweet exasperation. But he watched with a bitter heart as that expression was once again buried beneath your façade.
"Soonyoung," your voice was on the verge of shaking, "Please, your citizens await your speech."
"Then they can wait longer because you haven't given me your answer yet."
. . .
A few weeks earlier, the entire castle was in a mourning silence that was heavier than the sadness of the entire country. King Kwon had passed away in the eve of last night, and the Queen had very quickly resigned from her position, heart aching too much to think beyond her passed husband.
This left Soonyoung in a very painful position. His eyes were constantly overcast with frustration and sadness, heart being tugged into two very different places. One was unwilling to accept the death of his father, a truly great king and parent. The other was being forced by advisors and his mother to take up the mantle that had been left behind.
Constantly flooded with work and disputes, this left no time for him to truly mourn. With a temper far more volatile now, there was a hush in the halls as maids and servants moved with startling silence and efficiency.
Except you.
Seeing the way that Soonyoung's eyes faded more and more into a dull state of lifelessness, your own heart began to hurt. The pallor of his cheeks had never been so wan and paper-like, as all his usual youth and energy has slowly been sapped away.
Pushing the door of his study open while easily balancing a tray filled with nourishing food, on one hand, you step brazenly in. Seeing how he was still in the same hunched position as you had seen him in when you brought him his lunch, your eyebrows knitted.
Glancing to the side, you saw the untouched tray of food that was still sitting on the side table where you had left it several hours before. You felt a wave of worry and annoyance as you stared silently at it.
Shaking your head, you tilt your head towards Soonyoung again to see that he didn't even seem to notice that you were in the room. Walking slowly with quiet steps so that you were right in front of the expansive mahogany desk, you take the tray in both hands and slam it on to the wood with a harsh smack.
Soonyoung jolts and jumps out of his seat as he stares at you in surprise until it becomes overtaken with annoyance, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Reminding you that you need to eat." You point to the food sitting on his desk, flattening several stacks of paper, "You're not a monk, you know."
"I know, I heard you earlier when you brought the lunch in. I'll eat it later okay?" He raised his hand in a dismissive motion.
"No," your voice becomes colder, "That is lunch." You point at the tray of cold food before pointing back at the meal of herb roasted chicken, "This is supper."
