Poppy POV
"We need to talk."
"How worried should I be?" Wayo smiles as I walk into the apartment.
"Concerned." I tell him sitting down.
"How bad is it?"
"The hunters are moving." I reply. "A very powerful one is making arrangements as we speak to come here."
"I don't get involved in the politics..." He sits close.
Normally that was fine, his father took care of these things and he never needed to. The vampire elders and laws could get tedious, his father sheltered him from most of it but things had changed.
"You no longer have a choice; you put yourself in the middle of it by turning a Kongtanin."
I wanted him to have a little warning.
"What would my Beloved have to do with anything?"
He is always detached from everything, doing what he must on autopilot but now I have his full attention.
"Everything Nate gathered on Phana, I know you only would have looked at what concerned him but there is more happening around you then you realise." It's best to get to the point. "Phana isn't from a normal human family Wayo but a very influential hunter lineage. His grandfather is the reason we have a treaty to stay safely on this side."
"He is from that family? But he knew nothing about us." Wayo looks surprised. "Not until I told him what I was."
"It's not well known on our side but Tanari Kongtanin, Phana's father didn't follow in his father's footsteps. He chose to be a doctor, but knowing who his father is the hunters always kept it quiet. Maybe he never told Phana either."
I knew because I worked with his father, he was involved in vampire politics. Wayo didn't take much interest in these things but his father changed many vampire laws to make things easier for his son. The long-standing treaty with the hunters to stay on this side, his father had brokered so his son would be safe.
"Their father is a well-known figure in the hunter world." I tell him my concern. "Once he finds out his grandson was turned, things will get complicated."
"Where is my father?" Wayo asks quickly.
"He's speaking with the council about you turning someone, I haven't told him how you turned him yet Wayo, that he... is your beloved."
"Does he know who...?"
"Yes."
"If they try to do anything, I'll take him to the hidden city..."
"That would do no good, according to the treaty we have with them they can ask for his return."
"He's mine." Wayo eyes turn. "No one will take him from me. No one"
Wayo stands and paces. I didn't come to frighten him; I wanted to make sure he knew. If I could find a way to solve the problem myself for him, I would.
"She told you about him didn't, She? She never told you who he was? Where he was?" I ask as the thought comes to mind.
Why didn't she warn him?
"She said I had to wait." He's agitated, running his hands through his hair. "If I knew where I would have taken him the day he was born."
Thank the heavens she never told him where he was. It was a tense time, a small group had gone on a killing spree and everything pointed to newly turned vampires. If baby Phana had disappeared there would have been a war, literally, between the vampires and the hunters.
