Phana POV

I was always alone. Cold in the silent stone house, ignored by my parents, left to the nanny's or the teachers until they needed to bring out their trophy child and then I was returned to my silent wing.

I didn't know many other children, only meeting them on occasions and forgetting them the moment we left. I met my cousins but that came with rules set by my father on how to interact with them, especially with Lot. He was my uncle's eldest; he and I were always made to compete in everything by our fathers, it made us dislike each other.

The only thing interesting was the visits to my grandmother, every fortnight, without fail. The entire family gathered for the weekend. I hated the family but I liked the old woman everyone was afraid of, she talked to me. She saw me.

It was one of those weekends, grandmother was entertaining neighbours and I sat reading in the sunroom, escaping from my idiot cousins when a small silhouette passed by the window. I followed and caught him when he slipped, intending to shout at him but he looked up at me with big innocent eyes, his cheeks turning red and I couldn't breathe.

Do you know what it is, when you're empty and alone and then a bright star falls into your arms? It's a miracle, named Yo. He slowly seeped into every part of me and became my world.

It wasn't hard to find out who he was but whenever I got near him, he ran away! Every time, I didn't understand why. Then the hide and seek begun, he followed me around, hiding behind bushes or walls, diving into hiding when I saw him.

A new feeling blossomed in my chest, he looked for me. He saw me too. Our first meeting didn't go the way I planned. My father had been drunk; it was happening more these days, when he decided to make a bet with my uncle on who would win in a boxing match. Me or Lot. It wasn't a long fight, Lot was older, he had lessons and I only got one punch in before he beat me up.

My father was angry at losing made me kneel outside as punishment for hours but when it started raining he still wouldn't let me in, leaving me outside in the cold. I didn't look up when I heard the laughter, I knew who it was but when he threw the stones at me from the first-floor window I got up and left. I walked out of the grounds, through the back gates and into the rocky hills.

My fists clenched as I walked, angry at my father, angry at Lot for smirking while he punched me when I was on the floor and angry for loosing. I didn't look where I was walking, slipping and rolling down the hill, managing to hit my leg on a protruding rock.

I sat there, in pain as the rain fell gritting my teeth to stop the tears. No one would come, I bet they didn't know I was even gone, my father probably too drunk to even stand by now. No one was even looking for me...

"P'Pha!"

I looked up hearing someone yelling my name, was that Wayo? It was raining, why was he outside? I didn't care I was in pain, wet and cold but a happy feeling lightening my chest...he knew my name. He called me...P'Pha.

He sat next to me covering both our heads with his jacket using one hand to hold mine. Butterflies in my stomach, he didn't run away, he was holding my hand. He was so close, his nose only an inch from mine, big tears falling down his face as he hiccupped. He was a boy but I thought he was adorable.
