Poppy POV

"Make sure to hand this to the master."

I watch Lee take the message and leave as I head for the carriage. He was young but I could trust him. I waited years to hear from her but each passing day made the hope slowly ebb away. I had thought she might understand and become his but it never happened.

I became a thrall because I fell in love with him, the master, but it didn't take me long to realise he saw me only as a friend. It hurt, but to be away from him hurt more. I was young then, still holding onto the hope the maybe he could fall in love with me someday.

The day came when he did, but his love was not me but a young girl named Mai. She was beautiful, like an angel that fell from the heavens. She was sweet and kind to everyone, you couldn't help but like her. I saw what they shared and faded into the shadows to only watch. As days passed and even I saw her often, I couldn't hate her, even though she took the one I loved.

It was a surprise when she refused him, they had been so happy and in love. I thought she was only sacred, time would help but she didn't change her mind, she wouldn't see him. He had never been refused, his anger was deep, I wasn't surprised when he decided to leave.

I went to see her secretly, but her answer was the same. How could she leave him when I longed for him to love me? I didn't understand, I left her a way to contact me, if she needed us but I had hoped she would change her mind.

I never ventured back into her life, not wanting to cause problems for her. I hope she had been happy with whomever she chose to spend her life with. I looked out of the carriage window at the changed scenery as it came to a holt, wondering why she would send a message after so long.

"Three weeks." I shouted. "You let the note sit three weeks on your desk before you sent word?"

"Madam..." The idiot looked around his busy office. "Let's speak inside...we couldn't find you..."

"We can't be held responsible..." His pompous fat son interrupted haughtily. "If you don't behave, you will be removed from the offices..."

When he takes my arm forcefully, I lose my temper.

"You can, and I do." My slap silences him and the occupants of the offices. "Who the hell do you think you're speaking to?"

He touched his cheek still shocked.

"We are the reason you can lounge around and get fat." I snapped. "You don't get to decide what is important or not, you are placed here to do a job."

"We don't answer to you..."

"But you will answer to Master Panitchayasawad."

The moment he hears the name they both turn pale.

"He will be arriving soon, be prepared to answer to him."

I leave without another word, opening the small envelope, it only contains a message to come see her and an address. Why not send this message to me instead of making me come to the offices? The idiots were no longer useful.

"Ready?"

I nod to Arthit heading for the carriage. We left so abruptly to return to Thailand, he has questions I know and I will tell him what I can. It's the past, what sway can it have now? I stop when a young man stands in my way. He looks me over; I raise an eyebrow when he says my full name.

"Got a letter for you."

He takes out a clean handkerchief, cleaning his hand on his trousers before picking up the small package inside and handing it to me.
