Monse's POV:
"Why'd we have to move right after the last day of school?" I ask my dad. He doesn't get it, I'm starting high school next year I was supposed to have friends not a new house. "We've been over this Monse I wanted to get out of there and the house was ready today." My dad explains as he lifts a few boxes into the house. "I can see why they wanted to leave so quickly." I say under my breath. "And why is that?" My dad asks. "Look across the street." I say. "Looks fine to me, now hurry up Finnie we only have the truck for another hour or I have to pay double. Maybe ask one of the boys across the street for help." He says. I can't imagine how awkward and uncomfortable it would be if I went and asked them to carry our boxes.

Cesar's POV:
"Cesar, did you see that hyna that moved across the street? I wonder if she's eighteen." Oscar says as he licks his lips. "She's definitely not eighteen don't even think about it Oscar." I give him A disgusted look. "You're right she's more you're type anyways." He says as he takes a closer look. "Whatever Oscar." I just roll my eyes. I don't get why he can't be a normal person for two minutes. I see her struggling to carry three boxes at once and when one almost falls I start to get up. "What so now you're gonna go help her out? Cesar you're lil' Spooky now so stop acting like you're a fucking gringo." Oscar demands. "I don't have to be a gringo to help a hyna out Oscar." I never usually call girls hynas but it's Oscar I can't just call her a girl. "If you go over there you better smash. Don't be an idiot and claim the first hyna you sleep with." He looks at me with so much judgement but maybe that's just his face. "How am I gonna sleep with her if I don't even talk to her?" I ask him as I walk away. When I cross the street the hyna, I mean girl, looks at me like she wants to punch me. "What?" I ask. "I could hear everything you guys said." She tells me with a raised eyebrow. Maybe she's just saying that to get me to leave her alone. "Lil' Spooky." She adds. "Shit, listen it's not like that-" She cuts me off and rolls her eyes. "Yeah, I'm from Inglewood I know what that was." She says. I just stare at her I don't even know her name and she already hates me. "Are you gonna grab a box or are you gonna keep being a dick?" She asks. "What's your name?" I at least need to know who she is before she kills me. "Her name's Monse and ignore the attitude she can be a little rude when things change." A man who I'm assuming is her father says. "I'm Cesar." I say. "Oh yeah and that's my brother Oscar." I point at Oscar but then I realize he's lighting a joint. "Ignore him at all costs." I say quickly. Monse walks inside and I'm about to follow her when her dad stops me. "You're a Santo." He says I can't tell if it's a question or if he just knows. "A what?" I try to act dumb but he knows. "You know what I mean, if you get my daughter involved in the life I'll send the Prophets after you. They owe me a few favors and I bet they'll have no problem dealing with you." He says. "I don't know your daughter, why would I bring her into the life? I'll stay away." I put the box down and put my arms up. "I didn't say to do that either. My daughter can't know I told you this but she needs to be watched after I know what goes on in Freeridge but we couldn't stay in Inglewood. I knew your dad and I know how he was about loyalty." He says. "Hold up. You knew my dad, how? And why would I protect her you just threatened to get the prophets on my ass." I say. "I knew your dad when he became a Santo. I kept his cousin safe from the prophets and now I need you to keep an eye out for my daughter. Not too many people are gonna be happy that I'm back, you feel me?" I just nod because they went from neighbors to old family friends in two seconds and I can't keep up.

Monse's POV:
I see Cesar put his hands up and I already know my dad's trying to scare him. I see him pick up the last few boxes and I know it's safe for me to go out. "Monse!" My dad calls my name from outside. "I gotta go return the truck but you and Cesar should unpack while I'm out." He says. "You better not have scared him." I try being straight up with my dad as much as possible, especially when I know what he's trying to do. "Listen mija, Freeridge has a lot going on... I used to live here. I didn't scare him I just told him you could use someone who knows about this place." He's lying. I walk back inside and Cesar's moving boxes to the rooms they're supposed to be in. "So you can read." I say sarcastically. "What's that supposed to mean?" He says. "Nothing. What did my dad tell you earlier?" I ask. "He told me you didn't know anyone and it'd be good if you knew someone who's been here a while." Cesar's a liar too. "Whatever can you just help me unpack." I say. "Yeah, one more thing if my brother ever tries to hit on you, act like he doesn't exist." He says. "Well someone's jealous." I say jokingly.

Cesar's POV:
Monse's chill and funny. She's really cute but in more of a friend way. Not that we're friends. Are we? "Ha, sure I'm jealous of my perv brother." I say. "Thanks for the help but my dad left you don't have to stick around you know." She says. She puts a hand on my chest as she walks past me. What was that? Was she trying to flirt. "I know but I want to." What did I just say?
