Cesar's POV:
I leave the hospital and the stress hits me like a ton of bricks. I hoped Oscar would wake up by now but I did this to myself. Kaia said she'd try but I can't even remember the last time something went right. When I walk outside I see a small black car pull up and I can't tell if it's the social worker or not. "Get in we're meeting your social worker back at my house." Kaia says. I still don't believe any of this is happening. "How'd you do it?" I ask. "The real question is, how'd you manage to leave the hospital without Monse throwing a parade for you?" She laughs. "Seriously, tell me." Nothing's been going right this has to be fake. "I tried to convince her that we were family because of your nephew but she didn't listen to me... so Monse bribed her." She shrugs. "Why would you let her do that?" I'm starting to get kind of frustrated. "You said you wanted to stay here so she took care of it, it's not a big deal." She rolls her eyes. A few minutes later we pull up to her house and the social workers standing outside. "I don't really have time for this I've been working with Cesar and his brother since they where little something tells me this won't be the last time I see him." The social worker sounds kind of disappointed. "We took care of all the paperwork while you were in the hospital if you feel safe here then I can go." She says and I nod. "Come inside you can leave once she's gone." Kaya whispers. I walk inside and her kid runs up and basically knocks me off my feet. "Careful, Cesar just got hurt!" Kaya scoops him up. "I thought he'd be... I don't know, younger?" I shrug. "Oscar only found out a month ago. You remember when I went to live with my aunt a few years ago? I gave birth and I gave him to my aunt... I thought she'd take care of him." She admits. "So why does he live here now?" I ask. "She got arrested and when my mom found out she forced me to go get him. Now that he's here I can't even remember how I got through life without him." She smiles. "What's his name?" I ask. "Oscar, it was my aunt's choice, but I call him Junior. You guys can share a room for a couple days but I mostly work nights so you can crash in my room." She suggests. "Mami's a nurse!" Junior shouts. "Barely, I'm a nurse's assistant." She laughs. "So am I just gonna have to go back and forth from here and my house?" I ask. "You don't have to but I didn't think you'd want to live far away from your friends." She puts down her kid and we sit down to talk. "I'm not the right thing for Monse right now." I shrug. "You're seriously still on that bull shit?" She asks. "I thought you weren't supposed to curse in front of kids." I point out. "Shut up this is about your bad habits not mine! You keep going after that poor girl and then you break up but then you remember she's the only one who cares if you have your shit together and then you think she's too good for you... the fuck are you trying to do?" She yells. "We're teenagers it's what we do." I shrug. "No, I'm a teenager and I have... well I was trying to have a real relationship. You guys need to figure it out and you are definitely not hiding out in my house to avoid her." She insists. I don't really know what to say to her. "Sorry I know I'm not your mom or anything but you're not a kid anymore, you had to grow up really fast, Monse didn't have to go through all that. I'd understand if she didn't understand how precious your time on this earth is but she's being more mature than you are. Go put your stuff away, there's a bag in Junior's room." I walk into the room and she set up a futon for me since I hav to stay here until the surprise visits die down. "Are you my new brother?" Junior asks out of nowhere. "Jesus kid you scared the shit out of me." I shake my head. "No I'm not your brother I'm just staying here for a few days a week." I slide my duffle bag under the futon and I plop down so I can try to get some sleep. "Mami says that you know my dad and that he's a d bag." The kid says bluntly. "Seriously Junior! Go watch some cartoons or something." Kaia says from the doorway. "Sorry, he's a handful sometimes." She laughs awkwardly. "He got used to if here pretty quick." I point out. "Yeah, he still calls me Kaia half the time but he's getting the hang of it. The first night he was here was the hardest. When everything changes so quick... well you must get it since everything happened with your brother." She sounds upset. "Do you know what happened?" I ask. "People kept trying to tell me but honestly I don't want to know. He was probably doing some dumb shit like he always does... the fact that you were in the car scares me. He can't be around Junior. I know I'm the one who gave him up but it doesn't mean I'm gonna let him get dragged in to all that shit." She shrugs. "You can't keep him away from his son." I mumble. "Why not?" She asks. I take a deep breath and I look her dead in the eyes. "Because I'm the one that caused the accident... I shot him so that he'd swerve I didn't think this would happen." Her phone starts to wring and she gets up without saying anything.
