Chapter 69

" The trial, is due next year?" Ruby echoed.

" So it would seem." Qrow said to her. " We gotta wait till we get enough information on both Emerald and Mercury. Even more so from Cinder herself but she won't talk."

" So? We make her talk." Yang insisted. " We could ask Ozpin it Veena to to talk to her-"

" She did." Ironwood said walking into the room. " But that girl herself insisted to wait till the trial as Cinder had promised her."

" She said that she'll only talk during the trial. I'm not sure myself if that was a wise choice." Zea walked through the walls with a confused look. " It's almost strange. She barely comes out of her room nowadays. If I'm not mistaken, you all only saw her during the extraction." They confirmed this with a simple nod. Ruby thought for a moment before speaking.

" Maybe she's....I don't know, still a little...shocked?" Silence filled the room. The last time they saw her, she barely slept a whole week. Resulting in micro naps occurring here and there is even through the amber eyed lady's screams. Some swore to themselves that they possibly her whispering to herself as they passed by her room. Ruby felt bad that she didn't do anything to help her friend. Even though she showed clear pain, she still showed her gentle smile to them.

" Maybe." Blake agreed. She could understand from the violet girl's eyes that she felt like a monster. She didn't have black and red eyes or visible dark veins on her skin, nor did her skin turn pale from her fall into the pool as Salem did. But she had something different. Before anyone else could speak, a Nightingale flew into the room and perched on Zea's hand. Zea smiled at first at the sight of the bird but slowly frowned as the bird chirped.

" Hold on. She what?" She asked, raising her voice. She bolted through the door before Qrow could even ask. " No no no..." She mumbled repeatedly.

" Zea, wait!" Ruby raced after her and the others followed closely. " What's going on..?" Her steps slowed as the path led to Veena's room. She pushed the open door wider, only to see Zea standing in the middle of the room, her head shifting from left to right. " What? Where's...." The others paused as they arrived at her room.

" She left us...again." Yang stated. Zea picked up a note. " What is it?"

" I'm sorry for this and perhaps for not telling you myself. But I've been away from home long enough. I believe we all need a break from this mess, and get back to our families. I feel like I'm running, how childish of me. There are things I need to figure out. I know you all want to help but I need my family to get through this. So please, come look for me in a year when the trial will begin. Have a nice break and graduation to the youth.

Veena Cloud." Zea put down the note. She opened her mouth but no words came. She took in a breath and sighed. " That girl....is going to owe me..." She disappeared through the floor, leaving the others confused.

" Should we look for her?" Weiss asked.

" I don't think so." Qrow told them. " She said not till the trial."

" What do we do now?" Nora asked.

" Maybe like she said, take a break." Ren suggested. The room fell into silence, neither of them was sure what to do.
