Chapter 61

Ruby crouched low, hidden behind the rocky red hills. They were supposed to wait for a signal to get closer to Salem. They spotted an airship flying into the area, not at all worried about the grimm surrounding them. Hazel and Watts walked out first accompanied by Cinder with Emerald and Mercury following closely behind, dragging a winged faunus with them. They gasped quietly as they say Liam being dragged along the red dirt. Part of his prosthetic wing on his left side was gone.

" Remind me why we're still keeping him alive, just feed him to the grimm and be done with it." Watts said to Cinder with slight annoyance in his voice.

" Veena would want him alive." Emerald replied.

" Well, he does have a point. He's served his purpose, the violet eyed girl would be coming here either way." Liam broke off violently, escaping their grasp. He breathed heavily and held his side. His face was bruised and dry blood stained the corner of his mouth. His eyes shifted from his enemies to the grimm behind them. " Still up? Oh, don't worry, this is just going to sting a little." She threw a fireball, Liam sheilded himself with his wings, waiting for the heat to blast through. " What?"

Her pink umbrella twirled with the slight burnt mark on it. She waved cheerfully with a smug look on her face. Liam fell to his knees and grunted. Zack saw his cue and jump out, followed by the rest of his team. He looked at Neo and Liam in the eye, linking their minds with his. Cinder rolled her eye, of course she would send her workers instead.

" So it seems the Blackirds have arrived to save their little friend. Tell me, did Veena Cloud sent you?" Watts asked the six of them.

" Not us, her." He gestured at Neo. " You made a mistake, taking our friend."

" Oh really?" Mercury smirked. " Or what? You'll kill us? You don't know who you're dealing with here, we're the people you should be scared of." Zack laughed and looked at Liam with a smile.

" Dude, you're right. This guy does sound annoying!" He let his laughter die down and cocked his head. " Sorry, but that spot's reserved for someone else. And among the rules we know she honors, is that you don't mess with her flock." A flock of birds clouded above them, swirling like a dark mass of clouds. " Now!" Riza fired her flare gun into the air and it burst into a bright red cloud.

" That flare.." Watts muttered. It took him a moment to realize what it meant. " WE need to get out of here, it's Atlas-" An explosion killed off some of the grimm near them. Atlisian airships filled the skies. Hazel had gone in to warn Salem, but she already knew what was coming. Three Grimm Dragons appeared and were headed for the skies. Their eyes focused on the ships above the mansion. More grimm filled the area as Salem threw a fit of rage. A Beringel dove straight for team ZLVR and Liam. Cresent Rose swung in the air and the grimm's head fell to the ground before evaporating.

" Not on my watch." Ruby said smiling at them.

" You..." Cinder sneered as her eye glowed. A sinister smile grew on her face as she summoned dual blades. " I have been waiting to kill you for so long..." She felt calmer as a flock of manticores were headed their way followed by a herd of goliaths. " You're out numbered as it is."

" I thought so too." Ruby said calmly as the others faced off with the villains, team ZLVR, Neo and Liam held off the grimm that came their way. " At least before the flock showed up." She gestured to the manticores. They weren't coming down to attack them, they were going straight for the dragons. Five sea feilongs were leading them as a figure in a light blue veil stood on the middle one. Cinder gave a raged cry and they exchanged a few blows. One of the dragons froze, the veiled figure on it's snout as it made subdued sounds. They saw how the orange pupils changed to a deeper violet color. It was too obvious not to see. The dragon began attacking the other dragons as the manticores followed. " It's over, Cinder."

" No, it's not!" She pushed Ruby back and readied her spear.

" Ruby!" Qrow ran to his niece and pushed her out of harm's way. Time felt like it slowed down as she watched the flaming spear go straight for his chest, he didn't care, all that mattered was that she was safe. " I love you, kiddo." The spear never reached him as a long sword struck the ground, stopping it short. A manticore landed behind them, it's violet pupils greeted them delightfully. A figure stepped them and took out her sword.

" Go join the others." Veena told it and it obeyed. " Fall Maiden, we have unfinished business."
