Chapter 13

" There's no time, you have to run." Veena said as she held on to the decoy. " Ruby, please." She said firmly before the girl could protest.

" Promise me." She said looking up at her with sad eyes. Veena patted her head as she shook her own.

" I can't make you that promise, goodbye little rose." She said quickly as she ran the other direction through the thick forest, with little magic she learned she made the decoy glow blue to attract their assailants. " Forgive me," She said to no one as she ran. The dark figure guided her through the thick greenery. " Zea, watch over them. Please, this is all I want." Zea said nothing as she left, heading towards the group they left. She turned back for a moment, almost heartbroken to be leaving her friend.

Emerald, Mercury and Hazel were at her tail. She dodged every tree that came her way, moving in random motions to confuse the enemy. The figure did his best to guide her, going a little ways ahead to find an escape route. The spirits around her, rooted her to keep running, to keep going. Telling her she's almost there. She focused her energy to keep her going. She failed to notice the individual above her.

" Caught you!~" Tyrian said happily as he landed on her.

" Ruby, quick get on the airship." Jaune ushered her onto the military airship with her sister following behind. " Ruby, we don't have any time." She kept glancing back to see if Veena would appear.

" Ruby," Yang placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her a look. " She told us to go."

" But I-" Qrow placed a hand on her head and stroked her softly.

" Kiddo, please. I know it's hard," Ruby glanced back one last time and looked at her friends sadly. She climbed onto the airship reluctantly and settled herself. Qrow sat close to her, to provide a little comfort. Winter watched him for a moment before deciding to check on her sister. It was lucky that she happened to be assigned for a mission there by the general himself.

" Smart girl," He said as he pinned her down. He tossed aside the decoy with a little laugh following after. " Where are they?" He asked in a threatening tone.

" You should just tell us, child." Hazel advised her, it made him uncomfortable to see a small girl pinned to the ground so roughly. " If you tell us we'll let you go." Veena was reluctant and kept struggling against the faunus' grip.

" Look, kid." Mercury said, raising his voice. " We can't control him any longer, just tell us and we'll let you live, alright?" He glanced at Emerald, who was clearly uncomfortable. The girl was wearing binds around her eyes earlier before the chase started. " Hey, I'm not watching a blind kid get killed in the forest. Tell us what we want to know."

" That would make me disloyal and not true to my word..." She managed to say as she screwed her eyes shut. " They should be gone by now, out of your fucking reach-" She froze for a second as Tyrian's tail started close around her neck.

" How dare you...you little bitch." Tyrian said barely above a whisper. " I will not disappoint our queen...Oh, are you trying to say something? Speak up!" He tightened his grip on her throat, cutting off the airways. " You have such lovely eyes! Maybe I'll take them...you have no use for them anyway...." She looked up at the dark figure, whose eyes were filled with anger and fear. Then, she started to calm down and focused her eyes on the figure.

Emerald couldn't watch, neither could Mercury. The very vision of the life fleeing from her ever so slowly sickened them. Hazel looked to the side as the young girl glanced at him, he couldn't bear that look. He couldn't bear to imagine if it were his sister that died in such a way. Children were children, as they always are. The figure came closer to her, ready to meet her again in her next life. The voice was faint but it heard her.

" ...A...ge..." Tyrian tightened his grip even further with his tail to increase the pain. But then her eyes changed slightly, they were motionless but serious. The figure knew those eyes, and knew what she wanted the second it heard her repeat the name it was given in one of her lifetimes. " ....Kage.." She managed to say.

Tyrian screamed, taking the opportunity, Veena pushed him off with her remaining strength. She coughed as air filled her lungs again. She propped herself against a tree as the others watched Tyrian scream in pain as he lost another length of hos tail.

" Argh, I'm getting tired of that! Why you littile-" Crunch. They paused as the sound echoed. They couldn't see the figure become a scarf around her mouth and form itself as another mouth just as it had done back at the house, nor the sharp teeth that actually belonged to it. Crunch. Tyrian watched in horror as he saw his own tail being eaten by the very girl he tried to kill.
