#27 - The Goldbergs

Courtney and I were in the Squad Office, alone together. The two of us sat in a comfortable silence, working away on our laptops, when suddenly the notification sound emitted from my device.

"Who's that, baby?" Courtney asked, not looking away from her screen.

I opened the attachment and smiled, before gazing at Courtney. I had auditioned for an acting role on 'The Goldbergs' just a few weeks ago without telling anyone. It was a fairly popular show both locally and nationally, to a certain extent. The reason I hadn't told anyone was because I didn't want to disappoint them if I didn't get the job, plus, I didn't want to be bothered constantly with people asking if I got the role. Courtney on the other hand? I simply didn't tell her because I didn't want her to worry that I would be leaving Smosh, because I wasn't, but there was no reason to tell her if I didn't even get it.

"Baby?" Courtney pressed again, looking at me this time.

My gaze met hers and I smiled slightly, before looking back down at my screen quickly. One sentence in the email remained clear. Congratulations Mr. Topp.

I cleared my throat, before closing my laptop and striding over to Courtney. She eyed me up with a confused expression as I knelt beside her, sitting in her wheelie chair.

"Everything ok?" she asked, brushing some hair off of my forehead.

I smiled, "I want you to listen carefully, okay? And please don't freak out until I'm finished."

"Okay?" Courtney said, laughing with anxiety.

She held my gaze tightly, probably reading my expressions, trying to decipher my news.

"I got a new job."

Immediately Courtney exploded into a fit of raw emotion. A terrifying mixture of anger, sadness, heartbreak and confusion.

"What!? A new job!? How could you ever leave Smosh!? How could you leave me!? Again!? I-I-"

"Woah! Slow down! I said let me explain," I laughed, cuddling Courtney tightly.

She calmed down and proceeded to listen to every word I said.

"This new job would be alongside Smosh. I wouldn't have to leave, I'd just be missing Tuesdays."

"And? Where is it?"

"It's local, which means I wouldn't have to leave you, I couldn't ever leave you Courtney. Not again. Not after last time. I couldn't do that, both physically and mentally. It was torture, for you and me. I promise Court, I'm with you 'till the end."

Courtney smiled slightly, "What's the job?"

"A supporting role on 'The Goldbergs.'

Courtney's face lit up with joy, "Really!? That's amazing! I'm so happy for you baby!"

She hugged me tightly. I grinned but frowned all at the same time.

"You're happy for me?"

"Duh! Of course I am! Let's celebrate! I'm gonna go tell everyone that my boyfriend is gonna be on 'The Goldbergs!'"

We laughed together, before leaving the Squad Office and telling everyone the good news. They were all so happy for me, but the most important thing was that Courtney was happy, therefore, I was happy too.
