After a couple of days in the recovery ward, Shayne and I were given permission to take Skylar home. We were finally a family, and my life's purpose was already fulfilled, but that didn't mean there wasn't more to come.
Shayne and I continuously burst into tears as we simply looked at our daughter, revelling in the ecstasy of the moment. She was more beautiful than I ever could have imagined, more perfect than any other human on the planet, more undeniably cute than anything ever.
"We're so lucky," Shayne whispered as he set her down in her crib.
I laughed silently as tears rolled down my cheeks, and my exhausted body managed a brief nod to Shayne in return. He frowned sympathetically, and before I could protest, he scooped me up just how he did after we got married, and carried me to our bedroom, in which he tucked me in and left a gentle kiss on my forehead.
"Thank you, Courtney."
"For what?"
"For Skylar, for your love, for simply being you. I love you," Shayne stated sincerely.
I grinned sleepily, "I love you too, and you're very welcome."
Shayne chuckled as he left, allowing me to catch some sleep, and with that, familial life began.
