Shayne and I were an impatient couple, and so as soon as I was off of birth control, him and I were going at it at every possible opportunity, wanting nothing more than to see a tiny plus symbol on a small piece of plastic. We were ready to be a family, rather than a couple, and honestly, I think it was the most exciting point of anyone's life.

No one other than the two of us knew, as we wanted it to be a surprise for everyone. Olivia, as always, could see straight through me, as she consistently reminded me of her suspicions concerning my strange behaviour. I casually informed her I was fine, diverting any further questions for the time being.

Shayne's smile remained ever-present, in turn enhancing my own levels of joy and satisfaction. It was true what was said about marriage, it really did solidify a relationship and celebrate those two individuals' love for one another. Sure, 50% of marriages in America were ending in divorce nowadays, but my marriage was one founded on nothing short of pure, incorruptible love. Shayne and I were destined to be together, and it still all felt so incredibly surreal.

By this point in our story, you're probably sick of hearing how much I love Shayne and, in return, how much he loves me, but truth be told, it was all genuine, and somehow I loved my husband more and more each day. He managed to successfully encapsulate me in this protective bubble of his, a charm of which I couldn't resist and it caused me to feel nigh on invincible around him. Of course, Shayne was the only person who could made me feel vulnerable, but that oxymoronic quality lingered within our relationship. Our love for each other was both our rise and our downfall. We felt indestructible together, but when we were apart we had no reason to live.

"Court?" Shayne called from upstairs.

"What's up?" I returned, typing away on my laptop, currently editing a script.

I heard rhythmic footsteps descending the staircase, before they grew louder in audibility and arrived at the kitchen door. Shayne stood propped against the frame, towering like a Greek God. His muscular torso was exposed and his pecs rippled as he wiped his brow with the back of his hand, simultaneously slinging his T-Shirt over his shoulder. Paint stained his worn jeans and a cold glass of water was present in his grasp.

"I'm done babe, you wanna come and have a look?" Shayne asked.

I grinned, nodding enthusiastically and jumping up, skipping over to my husband like a child before gripping his hand. He was referring to the wallpaper for the kids' bedroom. We ascended the staircase cautiously, with me anticipating Shayne's work and him anticipating my reaction.

After peering in, tears threatened to dampen my cheeks and I could only manage a small whimper. It looked incredible. Bright blue sky stretched on endlessly across the ceiling, meeting at the wall and connecting with aesthetically pleasing clouds, swirled together in a mixture of white and baby blue. Pastures of luscious green grass presented itself beneath the clouds, accompanied by a plethora of woodland animals and delicate shrubbery. The room looked like something out of a Disney movie.

"It's magical," I exclaimed, uttering the only word fitting enough to describe the room.

Shayne chuckled and kissed my cheek, "Now, I'm gonna take credit for everything, even the design."

"Hey!" I smacked his chest jokingly.

Whilst it did look amazing, I designed it, and so Shayne really just copied everything. But still, it was perfect. Exactly how I imagined it.

"I love you, Shayne."

"I know. I love you too, Courtney."

Our lips met gently, and with that, I slipped the tiny object into his palm.
