As the months rolled by every weekend was spent at our new house. Shayne and I were committed to making it exactly how we wanted, and we spent at least five hours every Saturday and Sunday contributing to our dream.

Painting the walls together pleased me more than I thought it would, as it made me evaluate my relationship with Shayne, and only one word was good enough to describe it: omnibenevolent. The romantic stereotype of building a house together had become our reality, and I couldn't be happier about it. We slaved away for hours on end, splashing colour onto the bare walls of our future, adding character and life. Shayne's clothes quickly became drenched in a spectrum of tints, as did mine, but when our work was complete I realised the first piece of the puzzle had been put in place.

I struggled to keep my hands off of Shayne throughout the entire process, unable to dim my enthusiasm and gratefulness. He had planned this since our trip to Ojai apparently, all that time ago, and it made me love him even more. The two of us made love an unprecedented number of times in our new house, especially after building our new bed together and completing the master bedroom.

Our friends contributed to the house, helping us move furniture and whatnot from our apartment, and when that was finally finished, the only thing left incomplete was the kids' bedroom. Shayne and I agreed to let it be until we were ready. That way we could personalise the room when we knew the gender of our baby, and honestly, I couldn't wait to be a mom.
