One week. Just one week until our baby's due date. It had been the most turbulent, whimsical, joyous, emotional, action-packed and quite literally gut-wrenching nine months of my life. Frankly, the journey had been amazing, and whilst I'd be sad to see the end of it, I couldn't wait to meet mine and Shayne's little creation.
Speaking of Shayne, he had been, as expected, the most loyal, caring, amazing husband anyone could ever dream of. He hadn't stepped a foot wrong, only managing to annoy me when my hormones were in overdrive. As previously mentioned on more than one occasion, it was almost as if our minds were connected by some ethereal entity. Shayne could predict my every requirement, desire and craving. My husband was simply perfect, although I could see he was struggling to detect that himself.
Successive nights were spent with him apologising to me for the littlest of things, much to my chagrin. Shayne never had to say sorry to me, he'd given me everything.
Of course, let's not allow my soulmate's brilliance to overshadow everyone else's hard work and determination. Kari and Olivia had been so incredibly helpful, as had Mari, Jessica and Sarah. Damien did his best, and Keith and Noah didn't really know what to do, but their encouragement and general moral support was still much appreciated.
My parents were also amazing, but Shayne's family, as you can probably imagine, wanted nothing to do with us or the baby.
"Fuck 'em," were Shayne's only words.
Whilst I was disappointed by the fact that our child would only have one set of grandparents, I was proud of Shayne for finally standing up to his family and challenging their horrible attitude towards us. It made me love him all the more.
The cramps and back pains were truly starting to ramp up now, more so than ever, but Shayne, as always, was there for me. He spent hours upon hours ensuring my comfort, massaging my legs, feet, neck, shoulders and back, leaving delicate little kisses over my skin. I'd cry in the night, complaining about my stomach pains and the blinding sensation of what felt like fire burning up my throat, anticipating another wave of morning sickness, but Shayne never groaned or grumbled, he simply smiled, took my hand, and gently guided me to the bathroom, before tying my hair in a messy bun for me and rubbing circles up and down my back.
Whilst the eight months and three weeks thus far had been one hell of a ride, Shayne and I both knew the best was still to come.
A/N: Hey guys, sorry once more if this seems a little rushed.
