#16 - Jango

Ever since I had met Courtney the one thing she had always made obvious was her love for dogs. She had always been great with animals, and they never failed to put a smile on her face. When we dated in high school Courtney had a dog called Molly, and she was cute and all, but she always bit my feet when Courtney and I were having sex! Now that we were living together, and we were adults, I thought it would be a great idea for us to get some kind of pet. In a way, it could be practice for when we wanted to start a family.

I'd taken a 'sick day' off of work to go and collect our new dog, Jango. He was a Vietnamese-Ridgeback puppy with a playful side but he had also been very well trained and looked-after. When I arrived back at our apartment Courtney texted me to let me know she'd be ten minutes, and so I set a bowl of water down on the floor for Jango.

When Courtney finally pulled up outside, I shut Jango in our bedroom but left the bowl of water out as a subtle hint. I then sat on the couch and did my best to look as ill as possible, covering the coffee table in 'dirty' tissues and wrapping myself up in a blanket, pretending to be asleep. Courtney stepped inside and immediately made her way over to me, where she crouched beside me and stroked my forehead.

"Hey baby," she whispered softly.

"Hey," I replied with a fake yawn.

"Feeling any better?" she asked.

"I'm ok. How was work?"

"Ugh, shit without you. I-" Courtney stopped halfway through her sentence as she spotted the bowl of water on the floor.

"What's wrong?" I inquired innocently.

"What's that?" Courtney quizzed.

"Just water for our dog," I replied casually.

Courtney's eyes widened and she faced me, completely frozen, "What!?"

I jumped up from the couch and opened our bedroom door. Jango sprinted out and tackled Courtney to the ground, sniffing her face and cuddling her. I laughed. Courtney cried with happy tears.

"Hey buddy!" she exclaimed.

I chuckled in response, "I was never ill by the way, I had to go pick him up."

Courtney smirked and rolled her eyes at me as she contined to play with Jango, "So does he have a name yet?"

"Jango, but we can change it if we want."

Courtney shook her head and smiled, "Jango's perfect."

I sat next to Courtney and Jango on the floor, and the three of us cuddled together, as if we were a true family. Jango then went off to drink some water, and Courtney and I remained on the floor together, staring into one another's eyes. Courtney couldn't stop crying.

"I love you so much Shayne, thank you."

I smiled and kissed her, "Anything for you, my love."

We leaned in for another kiss, but Jango jumped onto my chest and licked my face all over, causing us to laugh again...
