*Shayne*

Courtney was right. Of course she was, she was always right. God! How could I have been so stupid?

The subsequent weeks were laced with underlying hurt, and I couldn't take it. Sure, The Goldbergs gave us more than enough financial stability, but I couldn't care less about that. The only stability I did care about was the consistent joy within my relationship with my wife, and I was marring our perfect record. My own stupidity and ignorance was hurting her, and that realisation alone killed me.

I had to give Courtney and Skylar one-hundred percent. I had to. I owed it to them. It wasn't fair for me to say otherwise, or to force them to compromise. It was my duty to ensure their everlasting happiness, and right now I wasn't fulfilling said duty.

Well, that was all about to change...

"Adam," I barged into the director's office, not caring about anything else other than getting home.

"Yes Shayne?"

"I-uh, I need to talk to you."

"Sure, have a seat," he instructed, not looking up from his paperwork.

"I-I wanna quit."

This time he did look up, but I immediately diverted my gaze to the glistening 'Adam F. Goldberg' plaque atop his desk.

"You wanna quit? Why? You just got a pay-raise, bigger role, more screen time. What's the issue?" Adam inquired, a little aggressively.

"My wife and daughter."

"They're the issue?"

"No, no, they aren't the issue. I just want to be with them more."

Adam shook his head in disbelief, "You realise what a pain in the ass this is gonna be? How are we gonna write your character out of the show!?"

"I'm sorry Adam, I-"

"Sorry, Topp? Sorry my ass, get the hell outta here!"

I bowed my head as I left his office, and I continued on until I got to my car in the parking lot.

"Dude! Wait!"

I turned to see Sam chasing after me, "Adam just told us you quit! What's going on?"

I smiled slightly, "I'm doing the right thing."

"What is that, exactly? Quitting a perfectly good job?"

"Spending more time with my family," I immediately answered.

An understanding tone set in as Sam's breathing slowed, and he allowed a small smile to dance across his lips, "We're all gonna miss you man, you haven't even said goodbye to everyone."

"Oh I will, but right now I gotta go get my wife."
