*Courtney*
Days passed, and Shayne and I eventually decided that we needed to confront Jessica, together. We called her into an empty meeting room at lunch, and as she saw Shayne her eyes lit up, however, she quickly spotted me in the corner, and resentment replaced her joy.
"Sit down," I commanded her sternly.
She did as I asked, and Shayne and I sat opposite her.
Shayne began, "Listen Jessica. We're gonna make this very clear. Courtney and I are never breaking up. We trust each other with our lives, so your little story about me and you having an affair means nothing to us. I understand you might like me, and I'm sorry, but Courtney loves me, and I love her. So move on, Jessica."
She sat there silently, staring at her hands on the desk. A small tear trickled down her cheek.
I sighed, "Look, we didn't wanna tell Ian because we don't wanna get you fired. Everyone deserves a second chance. I get the fact that you hate me, I'm with the man you like, but I'm sorry, we really do love one another."
Shayne wrapped his arm around my shoulders, before adding, "We are sorry Jessica. There are plenty of other guys out there. I'm just not the one for you."
Jessica then mumbled something. Shayne and I looked at each other with confused expressions.
"What was that, Jessica?" I asked.
"I-I'm sorry," she said more firmly.
Shayne and I remained silent, allowing her to speak.
She continued, "I'm sorry for what I said to you, Courtney. It was really selfish of me. I never realised you guys were so in love. I was just the new girl who had a crush on the 'hot guy' of the group. I mean, I knew you guys were in love, b-but... I don't know, I was just really selfish."
Her eyes met mine, and genuine regret loomed behind them, "I really am sorry Courtney. If you don't want to forgive me then don't, I'll completely understand."
I was torn. It was unusual for someone to have such a quick turnaround, plus, I was afraid that she was playing me. I couldn't trust her. Not after all of the lies she told.
"Jessica, I'm going to set some guidelines."
She nodded, wiping away a couple of tears.
I began, "You understand I can't trust you yet, not so soon after all the things you said. And your apology is so sudden, I can't tell if it's genuine."
Jessica nodded again.
"I'll forgive you when I feel ready, but for now, all I can say is I appreciate you listening to us and apologising for the things you said," I stated.
Jessica nodded once more, before excusing herself from the room. Shayne let out a deep sigh, before looking at me with a small smile.
"What?" I asked, perplexed by his happiness.
"That was kinda hot you know, listening to you being so serious. I've never heard you like that before. Setting 'guidelines.'"
I laughed as I blushed deeply, "You're dumb."
Shayne kissed my cheek, "And you love that."
I smiled, "Yes. Yes I do."
Moments later, Olivia and Damien entered the room.
Damien said, "We just saw Jessica go into the bathroom. Is everything alright between you two now?"
Shayne smiled and nodded, as did I. Olivia squealed with joy, jumping around and screaming 'Shourtney forever!' All four of us laughed, and Shayne and I kissed again, more passionately than before.
"Ugh, okay, get a room," Damien interjected.
We both laughed again, and Damien and Olivia asked if we wanted to go to lunch with them and the rest of the Squad. Of course we agreed, but as we were leaving the office, I had an idea. The rest of the Squad and Damien would be taking Olivia's car, whilst Shayne and I would take mine. The others already drove away, but just as Shayne buckled his belt in, I opened my door.
"Something wrong?" Shayne asked.
I sighed, "Wait here babe."
"Where you going?"
"Just to the bathroom, I'll be five minutes."
Shayne huffed over-dramatically, causing me to laugh and he didn't let me go until I gave him a kiss. I then set off indoors. The bathroom was not my destination in mind, in fact, I didn't have a destination. I was looking for Jessica. The quickest way to repair things would be to bridge the gap between her and the rest of the Squad.
Eventually, I found her, ironically in the bathroom, cleaning her make-up stained face. She spotted me in the mirror and span around quickly, almost a little frightened.
"H-Hey Courtney," she said.
"Hey, um, everyone's going to lunch now. The Squad, Damien, Shayne and I. Do you... Do you wanna come?" I asked, gesturing towards the door.
"Um, I-I don't know, won't it be a little awkward?" Jessica asked hesitantly.
I smiled, "Only if you make it awkward. Come on. Let's just forget about everything. Start afresh. Come to lunch with us."
"Won't everyone hate me for what I did to you and Shayne?"
"Oh yeah, totally, but you can show them all you're truly sorry by coming to lunch," I said with a tone of half-mockery, half-sincerity.
Jessica smiled slightly, "O-Okay, I'll come."
I grinned, "Let's go then."
