The clock approached midnight at a snail's pace, with everyone anticipating the beginning of a new year. People sang and danced like there was no tomorrow, and drunkards aimlessly meandered around Ian's apartment.

Noah was off of his face as him and Keith crushed the beer pong tournament, with their girlfriends cheering them on, and Damien contributed to a few shots too. Jessica and Olivia floated around, chatting with as many people as possible, not drinking an excessive amount, and Sam followed.

Ian was catching up with Anthony, whom all of us still saw on a regular basis, and Miel, his girlfriend, socialised too.

I had never been one for big parties, with excessive drinking and mindless hookups. Shayne and I did go to the prom together in high school obviously, but we spent the entire time outside, alone, and that's exactly what we were doing now.

The vibrant L.A. atmosphere radiated throughout the blackened sky, with music being heard for miles around. The city centre was aglow with a plethora of different colours, and a chilly ocean breeze made its way through the urbanised areas, brushing through countless houses and apartments. I shivered at the cool temperature, desiring more warmth, and Shayne seemed to read my mind as he entrapped me further in his embrace. The two of us were sat on a deck chair outside, with Shayne allowing me to rest in his lap, and we shared a fluffy blanket.

"You wanna go inside, baby?" Shayne asked, stroking my hair.

I shook my head, continuing to gaze at the stars, and I felt Shayne's smirk on the top of my head as he kissed me. My position shifted under the blanket as I threw my legs around his waist, and he held me so close to his body. I could feel his warmth radiating onto me, causing me to grin.

"How long?" I inquired quietly.

Shayne checked his watch, "Three minutes."

I grinned and rested my head in the crook of Shayne's neck, kissing his cold skin ever so slightly. We counted down the seconds together, and as I gazed into Shayne's ocean blue eyes, time seemed to stop, and we were encapsulated in a bubble.

Shayne's lips read, "Three...two...one..." and I had never felt more vulnerable in my life as fireworks exploded all around, illuminating the night sky, and cheering could be heard across the entire city.

My eyes darted down to Shayne's lips, and they edged closer to mine. Soon, that familiar sensation that I loved more than anything greeted my lips, and I smiled into the kiss, inhaling Shayne's scent. We pulled away slowly, rubbing our noses together gently, and Shayne tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear whilst our eyes remained closed.

"Happy New Year," Shayne whispered.

I sighed blissfully, "Happy New Year."

And we kissed again.
