*Courtney*
Shayne and I were snuggled together amidst a messy entanglement of limbs, bed sheets and blankets, not recovering, just talking and enjoying one another's company.
The hustling Los Angeles night-life atmosphere could be heard for miles around, with neon lights illuminating the city skyline. Vapour trails streaked across the black canvas that was the sky as planes meandered in and out of the country, flying over our state.
The air-conditioning unit whirred on tirelessly, fulfilling its objective of regulating the temperature and mitigating against the sweltering heat ever-present in California.
"We have come such a long way," Shayne muttered suddenly.
"Hmm?" I responded.
"Us. As a couple. We've achieved so much. I still remember the day I met you as if it were yesterday. I can recall every little detail. The way your hair was styled. The perfume you wore. Your stutters when we first spoke. The way you couldn't help but touch me. The way your broken iris examined my every movement. Everything, Courtney," Shayne exclaimed reminiscently.
I grinned, blushing and also twirling strands of his thick hair, "Me too," was all I said.
"Court? Wanna go watch the football practice?" Olivia asked me, helping me put my new folders in my locker.
"Sure. Why exactly?"
She grinned, "It's the beginning of sophomore year!"
"Ok. So?"
Olivia chuckled, "New guys potentially means cute guys. Come on."
I frowned slightly but tagged along anyway, following my best friend to the bleachers outside. Boys weren't a 'speciality' of mine, per se. I was fifteen years old yet I'd never been in a relationship. Olivia had had one boyfriend, but she was single again. She was just so much more confident than me. I was a little jealous in a way. Oh well...
The two of us sat in the stands and watched on as a couple of boys we knew threw the ball back and forth. They were obviously the first ones out on the field, but before long the entire team appeared from the changing rooms. Most of the guys were recognisable, and so I tapped Olivia's shoulder.
"I'm gonna go," I whispered.
She didn't even look at me. All she did was nod in a frontal direction and murmur, "12 o'clock Court. Totally hot guy checking you out."
My gaze followed hers, and for once she wasn't over-exaggerating. Some kind of deity stood on the field peering up at me with a sexy grin. Ocean swept hair complimented his dazzling smile and fairly tanned complexion, further enhancing his good looks. The definition of his muscles was impeccable, reflecting an athletic physique, but this starkly contrasted his genuine smile and slight, sweet blush greeting his cheeks, also accompanied by a jawline that could cut through steel.
"Oh my God," was all I could manage.
Olivia chuckled, "Jeez Court, that guy's checking you out like you're a piece of meat, and if I knew any better, I'd say you're doing the same to him."
My blush only deepened, and the sun seemed to solely shine down upon my perfect admirer, symbolic of his charisma and magnetism. The feeling was like lightning. It was unmatchable and absolutely incredible. I felt lighter than air and I hadn't even spoken to him yet.
"He's gorgeous," I thought aloud.
Olivia laughed loudly, snapping me out of my lustful trance, and the boy faced his friend who was signalling something to him.
