Expecting no less than at least a few snarky comebacks and possibly a physical altercation between them, Dakota was taken aback by the rather docile response he had initially gotten. It was unlike the vampire to be this tame, but come to think of it... It was also rare for his own demeanour to be so complacent, especially around a leech like Zachary.

The wolf suspected it was the bond the two of them now shared that had something to do with their out of place behaviour. Mating was no laughing matter. Regardless of species, a successfully mated pair would feel obligated to be near each other. There would be a great need to protect and nurture the other party regardless of age, sex, or previous relationships. Above all else, there would be an overlapping sense of loyalty between them, as if nobody else in the world mattered so long as they had the other by their side. Needless to say, both boys had a lot to learn about their new bond and just how powerful it could be. It took all of Dakota's willpower not to step down from the front porch and travel to the other male's side.

The dejected look the vampire was sporting caused the wolf's chest to feel funny, constricted almost, and it wasn't very comfortable. Luckily, Zach appeared to have found his pride again and straightened himself out before making his way towards the brunette still leaning against the doorframe. Narrowing his eyes as the remainder of his coffee was taken away from him, Koda didn't even flinch as the mug was tossed to the side and shattered into pieces loudly. Well, that was unnecessary, but so very typical of the immortal. Pushing away from the doorframe to stand up straight as his chin was grabbed, the canine squared his shoulders and returned the smug smirk Zachary was giving him.

Honestly, if his tail had been out right now it would be wagging in interest at the show of a challenge. "Already thinking about a 'next time'?" Dakota mused accusingly, though truthfully the idea didn't exactly sound bad to him either. "That's cute, and so is your empty threat." He continued, not really noticing the way his body had instinctively moved closer once it had registered just who was standing in front of him. Their bodies were now practically flush together, and it wasn't until the brunette's nose bumped gently against the vampire's did he finally realize just how far he'd inched forward. Curse this insufferable bond... Yanking his chin out of the other man's grasp, Koda took a half step back and gestured for his newly mated partner to follow him into the house. "Get inside, we can play 'dysfunctional relationship' later. Right now, we need to discuss what the hell we're going to do about..." The dog paused a moment, his hand unconsciously raising to touch at the fresh bite along his neck.

Deciding to simply not finish his sentence - Zachary knew damn well what he was referring to anyway - Dakota turned to lead the way back to his kitchen to make yet another pot of coffee, this time big enough for two.
